What will be the new ‘you don’t know you’re born’ in 30 years time?

I am in my 40s so grew up in the 80s/90s. There have been quite a few times today that I’ve rolled my eyes inwardly at my lovely DS’s (6 and 4) and muttered under my breath ‘god, you don’t know you’re born!’

Firstly for lunch we had pizza. My 6 year old asked if it was in the fridge or being delivered. I said it was from the fridge. He sighed. I thought to myself that I didn’t even taste a takeaway pizza until I was a teenager!

Secondly we were having an afternoon film at home and deciding what to watch. So many choices across various streaming services and my youngest exclaimed there was nothing at all he could possibly watch on any platform…, i told them that when I used to want to watch a movie, I had to walk down to a video shop and pick one from what was available!

So it got me thinking…. What will be the equivalent for them when/if they have their own children? What will their children have at their fingertips and still be moaning only for them to look back and compare to their ‘terrible’ childhood. Im thinking surely AI is going to play a part?

And just in case posters start picking at things, my boys are lovely and most of their moaning comments are said in jest!

Actually going places.
Who needs to visit Vienna when you can use google immersive streetview?

Also, maybe moaning that delivery drivers used to only deliver to the house, when now they place the food on a platter in your bedroom.

Having to sit quietly in the car while your parents drove you places, rather than them being free to entertain you in a self driving car.

.... struggling to think of other things that might get better, tbh. That's depressing.

Actually, maybe a recycling one. "We had to separate everything and wash plastic tubs out" after they invent a way to just sift it all out the main bin. Got to be on the horizon.

Being too hot or too cold. We’ll have to explain that we were at the mercy of the weather.

helpfulperson · Today 19:12

That people used to have to actually drive cars.

BognorRegenia · Today 19:23

Hopefully the whole burning yourself alive for the first five minutes of being in your car on a hot day. There needs to be some sort of "instant cold" button

We used to have to look things up on google, now you just have a neural nanonic implant, 😝. (Curtesy of Peter F. Hamilton's sci-fi Night's Dawn trilogy)

Working a 3 day week or no job when AI takes over

Treetreetreetree · Today 20:05

Sadly I think we might be reminiscing about how much better things were. Like having a variety of food to choose from and being able to go out in the summer because the temperatures weren’t insane.

LifeBeginsToday · Today 20:22

I is a known fact that too much choice leads to decision paralysis. Try "do you want to watch this, or this".

MoggetsCollar · Today 20:26

Having to clean or do laundry manually for one week while the housekeeper robot is in for a service.

Hop0nhop0ff · Today 20:57

Probably

People being elderly, but looking forever youthful

3D printing broken items or food or medecine

Holidays to the moon

Drone deliveries

AI banking that helps people manage their money better

Credits for doing non technology related things, like walking in nature

Speaking animals

autumnwitch4 · Today 20:59

Having to exercise and diet to lose weight (rather than weight lose pill//jabs)

Having to use your hand to write or even learning to write at all (it will all be devices and AI)

Having to type anything - everyone will be speaking instructions to their phones and laptops

YosoyEduardo · Today 21:00

It's depressing but in 2056 we will look back at today and go "those were the days" 😭

autumnwitch4 · Today 21:01

All houses, buildings and cars will have air con. Not having air con in 2056 would be viewed as strange as not having central heating in 2026.
