AIBU to be upset by my sister's urgent calls and family barbecue?

I just need to vent. Have 3 small kids and family life is not good right now I’m a bit depressed so may have overreacted. My phone has been switched on do not disturb. I’m not overly close to my siblings but I am civil when I see them. No fallouts just how I feel about them leaving me out all the time. Being the youngest I was always left out as the other 2 would do things without me and call me annoying.

Anyways I turned my phone off so not disturb from 3-6 (just to give me a few hours rest from constant notifications and to be present for my kids). to find 10 missed calls and 2 voicemails from my sister telling me to urgently call her back. My mind went on worst case scenario that someone has died or something awful has happened to her kids. I quickly in panic state got my kids in front of the tv, gave them snacks is and ran upstairs to call her out of earshot of the kids.

She picked up and I can hear laughing and shouting happily from kids and I can hear she’s with other sibling they having a barbecue which I haven’t been invited to she then proceeds to tell me she called me to tell me her kids party which she was doing end of October she how delaying for a week later! I was so angry at this point as I was panicked and I told her why would she make it sound so urgent and she said she only left me 2 VM! I then told her I think she only really wanted to speak to me to make me aware they meeting without me and my kids to show me she told me “think what you like”

I am really pissed off and don’t want to be annoyed when I go back down to my kids as they can sense my moods especially the eldest. Can someone please talk me through this? I’m feeling a little upset they together without me, I’m also feeling more upset that had I not phoned her vs k I would be non the wiser they were together and it wouldn’tt upset me.

Yes I can see why you’d be annoyed. Put your hands on your belly and bring your breath right down. Then go and sit with your lovely kids and put irritating sisters out of your head.

Sorry for all the typos. The last line I can’t edit now should read “ I’m also feeling more upset that had I not phoned her back I would be non the wiser they were together and it wouldn’t upset me”

Thank you. It’s just so obvious to me it was an ulterior motive as she could easily have sent a message that party is on x date now. Like it’s August the party is for another 2 months! I hardly have a busy social life that I need to think ahead so much.

Would you feel happier going low / no contact with them?

I’m actually very low contact with them, I will speak to them when I see them and send a message on birthdays and anniversaries but don’t share my personal life with them like I used to.

What a nasty piece of work!

They might be together but they obviously aren't enjoying themselves or each others company as they are spending their time trying to show you what you are missing out on, very sad really.

Enjoy your happy life without such strange people in it and be glad you aren't tied up in their obvious misery.

In future ignore any phone calls ask her via message what the reason for her call is.
