To think that my cleaner should be charging me less for not doing my floors?

I hire a cleaner once a fortnight.

Sadly I would look for another cleaner if she can't do what your employing her to do.

Did she spend the time cleaning something else instead. You are paying for her time. Thst said, if she can't clean the floors she's not doing a whole clean so I'd start looking for a new cleaner.

Tricky...if she's done 2 hours that's 2 hours pay. Maybe find a new cleaner who can do the whole job

If she is still there for the full 2 hours and doing cleaning, then of course you still need to pay the full rate.

You can still have a conversation with her about whether this will be a permanent problem and try to come up with a solution/reasonable adjustment.

You pay for the time not the tasks. However, if she is no longer doing the job to the standard you would like and it's likely to be a long term thing, it's probably time to look for another cleaner.

Huh? You’re paying for her time. If you want the floors done she will need to leave another task or you can employ her for longer

You need to be specific about what you want done. That said, I would surely expect floors to be part of a general clean. It's difficult to tell if you're being unreasonable or not because we don't know what else you expect her to do. If she would be over her time cleaning floors because you give her too much to do, then YABU. If she is inefficient or skimping on time, then YANBU.

This is true, although it is possible than the cleaner is leaving too soon.

In your initial unedited post you said have a cleaner 2 hours every 2 weeks for a 3 bed semi. This doesn’t sound like much time at all. I think you need to give her a list of the tasks you would like her to do in priority order and she does as many as she can in that order in the 2 hours. Sounds as if for you the floors would be a priority task.

If you want her to do the floors but she is not physically able then you need to get a new cleaner. If she’s not doing the floors because the 2 hours you are paying for are not sufficient you either need to move the floors up
the list so she gets to them in the 2 hours or pay for more time.

Is she doing all the tasks you ask her to, except the floors in less than the 2 hours and then leaving ?

And in = weeks we'll be getting the same post. Basically it seems the cleaner has 2 hours once a fortnight to clean the house...thats not much time

More importantly has the op actually discussed what she wants done. My wife is a cleaner and following the initial chat gives a customer a list of the tasks discussed and agreed time frames like wash floors every time, dust spare bedroom once a month etc

I hire a cleaner once a fortnight. They do two hours. I live in a very bog standard 3 bed semi.

Cleaner has an ongoing hip issue. The last two cleans they have text me after saying they've not been able to hoover or mop floors due to their hip issues.

AIBU to think that I shouldn't be expected to pay their full fee if they haven't hoovered and mopped? I don't want to seem lacking in compassion but it's actually really annoying coming in from work and having to clean thw floors myself when I've paid for them to be done.

I feel like I'll come across like a twat if I say anything but ultimately I'm paying for a servic e I'm not receiving.

Two hours once a fortnight isn't much for a 3 bedroom house. If she stayed the 2 hours and did other tasks then I think that's fine.

my cleaner does mop / hoover my floors , 3 bed semi & 2 hours fortnightly so same set up , but she misses other things , ie moving stuff in the kitchen to wipe underneath & she doesn’t wipe over the sliding doors ( glass ) , there has to be a compromise , 2 hours isn’t really that long

I agree that OP needs both to allow the cleaner enough time and also needs to be clear in her expectations. However, if this particular one is unable to wash floors and that's part of what the OP wants done, there is no point in keeping her on.

I think you need to find a new cleaner and your cleaner needs to find a different job. It's a pity the lady has hip problems, but there is really no point in having a cleaner who cannot hoover or wash floors.

True. People on here seem to have a strange attitude towards cleaners, though. It's as if they are scared to expect anything of them, so I'm not entirely surprised that OP felt unable to talk to the cleaner directly.

Unfortunately, if she can’t offer you what you need, you need to part company

2 hours once a fortnight is ok as long as you don’t expect a full house clean. In that time, I’d expect bathroom/s, kitchen, Hoover and floors mopped. I’d not expect any dusting or window cleaning, no skirting boards etc etc done.

I did cleaning for about 15 years, to do it properly, not just a quick wipe over, 2 hours won’t clean a whole 3 bed house

It’s not unreasonable to expect your floors hoovered and mopped. Personally, I think it’s ridiculous she isn’t offering this. I used to be a cleaner and two hours for a three bed was more than long enough to do a great job. You’re clearly cleaning in the middle of her cleans.

speak to her, it’s what you need doing and if she can’t do it, that’s not your fault.

More information needed. Looks like both and your cleaner like to use the minimum amount of effort towards a task.

Not sure why they can't hoover or wash floor of using a machine ?

People saying you're paying for her time - If she's doing less, then it shouldn't be taking up her usual time allocation to do the job and she will be leaving earlier than usual. How long would it usually take to mop and vacuum? Deduct it in time...maybe 15 minutes? 10 minutes?

Reading the pre edit version of the post where the OP says the cleaner isn’t hoovering & washing floors because of an ongoing hip issue it’s no longer working for both of them. - get another cleaner.
if she’s there for 2 hours tho she needs paying for 2 hours.
