AlwayAnxious · 14/08/2026 23:40

People in the distance letting off fireworks, by the sounds of it, not just one person either

Seems to be after the Government alert, people have gone crazy and acting like children ?
Surely they arent just being defiant?

We have had multiple wildfires and house fires over the last few weeks

Terrible

Our local event cancelled and rightly so.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/08/2026 00:05

I thought I heard a small number of fireworks half an hour ago. Some people are selfish idiots.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 15/08/2026 00:06

Fireworks here too but I can't blame the alert because we had them last night as well.

Groaaan · 15/08/2026 00:52

They’ll be muttering to each other about how they ignored social distancing too as they light the fireworks. But it’s fine cause we’re all dead anyway…vaccines innit

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 15/08/2026 01:03

This is why the message was stupid.

It gave idiotic people ideas. They want to ‘stick it to the man’.

I agree it's irresponsible.

I think it's people celebrating exam success.

Oh good god it’s Covid again.

Needtocomeupwithabetterusername · 15/08/2026 03:08

I think it’s ridiculous that people still insist on letting balloons and Chinese lanterns go/ set off fireworks/ have bonfires and bbqs at the moment. It’s so irresponsible

I bet Boris is letting off fireworks!

DistantEarlyWarning · 15/08/2026 19:35

Some idiots set a fire in the tiniest clearing in the woods near us a few days ago. We smelled smoke so investigated and found what appeared to be a fire pit of smouldering embers. The fire brigade had to bring buckets from the engine to put it out.

Although I think the alert in the form it was broadcast was ill advised, and in the end I disabled alerts on my phone because I was still getting them after 10pm, the general message is correct.

There’s a real danger of loss of property, or even loss of life. Anyone minimising this is a fool.

You can’t really be this ignorant about the risk of fire, surely? This kind of restriction is perfectly normal in, for example, Arizona, and as we’re as dry as a tinderbox here too - from Yorkshire down at least - the restrictions are needed here too.

What we didn’t need is a phone alert that went off many times over several hours, not least because it makes thickos decide to stick it to the man.

schashme · 15/08/2026 20:11

@DistantEarlyWarning no I’m not, I’m obviously not doing anything against advice, I don’t know why you’ve interpreted my post that way, but it is going to get very tedious very fast with people constantly posting about it all like this. It’s like they think they’ll be fast tracked through the pearly gates or something.

Edited

Being worried about public safety - and stupid people possibly setting fire to my house - is virtue signalling?

Okay.

schashme · 15/08/2026 21:29

@DistantEarlyWarning you’re not the OP?
