To ask if I should stop doomscrolling when I’m with my cats?

I try not to be a phone zombie with family but one of the best parts of the day is a cuddle with my cats when I finally finish work.

Do they feel ignored and overlooked when I scroll Mumsnet? Do they give a shit? My cats seem very chilled about it but are they crying inside?

Have I finally found the perfect relationship where I can read Mumsnet without offending or ignoring my loved ones?

Keep on scrolling. I doubt they're bothered 🤣

I think they can be bothered. Our late cat, hated it and would gently paw you if you had the temerity to look at your phone when your focus should be on her. Watching TV after she was appropriately settled, was acceptable.

As long as you're providing a lap and gently scritching with your non-scrolling hand, you're fine.

Mine will sometimes put a paw on the screen when I am on my phone. Can’t tell if he’s imitating me or trying to give me a telling off!

You have to play them cat videos of wildlife and watch their amusement. That's what mine likes anyway, she'll watch them for ages.
That or gymnastics 🤣

Just don't cheat on them by watching cat videos.

I would say mine are bothered. They persistently nudge my phone when it’s in my hand as if to say ‘stop that and give me a head massage’

Mine regularly knocks my phone out of my hands when he decides my screen time is up.

I have 2 cats. One is perfectly happy on my lap if I’m doom scrolling and will sit there for sometime. The other will only sit on my lap for 2 minutes at a time ( and my husband too) but if he is not the sole focus of our attention and particularly if we are doom scrolling, he will headbutt the phone until we put it down. It clearly works as as soon as he gets up on our lap we immediately put down our phone.

Videos for cats on Youtube are great. I use an old iPad and prop it up for them to gawp at for hours. (See also the wonderful channel 😻WalterSanti)

They both try to headbutt my present iPad from me when I’m watching some tv series on it.
Both are extremely elderly (like meself) but are still very vocal about demanding my attention/services/lap etc.
Im always straining to hear whatever I’m watching in case it annoys them. Same with the radio…barely audible!

they do love watching cat tv on the main tv though. One of them genuinely thinks the birds are behind the tv
