AIBU to think passports are effectively only valid for 9.5 years?

To think passports should now be sold as 9.5yr things. Recently renewed so our November weekend in France didn't eat in to our January expiry date and it has come back as valid til August 2036 ... Which again will need to be renewed 4+ months early to keep to guidelines (obvs subject to change). So that's 6 months stolen by the system. On the upside I only paid for standard service and it is back within two weeks.

YANBU to note this and perhaps feel annoyed but YABU to think this is not common knowledge for those who travel.

No, because it depends on where you go. Not everywhere has the "needs six months before expiration date" thing.

I love people expressing their niche annoyances 😄

Yanbu but wont ever happen 🤷‍♀️

Not everywhere requires months on your passport before return as PP said.
