To cancel holiday during heatwave?

Lone parent of 4 and 6 year old boys. Planning to stay in a eurocamp on the south of France.

I’m totally knocked out by the heat today and I’ve only had one of them most of the day. Can’t sleep…

Due to leave Saturday. Forecast is between 31-34. Just don’t think I can do it. Flying and not planning to rent car.

I mean... don't people usually go on holiday for the sun/hot weather? Will there be pools or the sea? I wouldn't cancel the holiday.

31-34 is pretty normal for S of France in summer I think? Heatwave is mid 30s up to 40 which it has been several times this summer. What sort of temperature were you expecting?

Do you have air con and easy access to pool or sea? These things make a huge difference and you can actually enjoy the sun since you can sleep and cool down.

We have been to a Eurocamp in France this summer at similar temps and it was fine as there was an aircon unit in the cabin, plenty of shade and 2 pools. People are pretty relaxed there so you won’t feel the need to dress up and be smart, just embrace your flip flops and beachwear.
Shame to cancel.

France is different to uk humidity and on holiday you go in the pool and have cool drinks and ice cream. Go and have a lovely time.

Spend your days in the pool/sea/whatever body of water you can. Kids will have a blast.

best to be by the sea or pool when it’s hot than stuck at home struggling hot bored and bothered

It’s going to be a bit cooler next week. Poor children, I bet they’re really looking forward to a holiday. You’ll surely have much more fun there than rainy England?!

I spent every summer as a teen camping in S of France.

in a tent so no air con!

It’s fine. Less humidity. Lots of pools and a beach (take crocs as the sand gets hot!)

We are in a South of France Eurocamp right now. It is completely different than being in the UK as you can hop in the pool or sea whenever, and the caravan has amazing air con. It is hot but normal levels of hot for the area, not like it's been in the UK.

That’s the normal temperature for this time of year, last time I was in France in august it was 36. Upside is that airports are air conditioned

Those temperatures are normal for south of France in summer, not sure why you’d book a Eurocamp there if you don’t like the heat.

31-34 is pretty standard for August in south of France? If it’s t was hitting mid 40’s fair enough but for those temperatures I would be really looking forward to it. I definitely think 31-34 here feels so much hotter than the same temperatures abroad.

Surely you expected that kind of weather when you booked? 30-34 is just normal summer temperatures for the south of France.

Just back from hot, hot holiday. Spent most of it sitting in the pool, or in the shade. It's so different when everything I'd geared up for the heat.

Ive euro camped in the heat. The pool is normally a good place to cool off and a lot of stuff happens in the evening when it cools off. I would say it's quite hard to escape the heat in a tent though. It just tends to be whatever the temp outside is. If its a cabin check if it has aircon

You’ll be grand. You won’t be on ‘work speed’. You’ll be in ‘holiday mode’, which makes a massive difference in this heat.

I'm on holiday in southern France now. Was 36 degrees yesterday. It's absolutely fine. In and out of the pool and sea all day, laying on a lounger under the sunshade, sipping iced drinks all day, had a brief siesta indoors after lunch.

I'm failing to see how this differs from every other summer holiday abroad I've had in previous years? I was at this same resort 3 years ago and it was hotter then. I know there's heatwaves everywhere, but people are acting like the sun is a new invention. Just be sensible.
