AIBU to think too many Clayton by-election candidates could split the anti-NF vote?

To think the myriad candidates in the Clayton by-election will undermine their purpose? ie to protest against NF and not re-elect him?
I think they’ll split any opposing votes and he’ll get back in by default.

I don’t think so - I’ve lost track a bit but some of the others are very right wing. The fox has stepped back so isn’t on the ballot sheet. Not sure who else is on it…

Surely everyone knows that a vote for Binface is THE anti Farage protest vote!?!

It wouldn't matter if there were 100 candidates, Mr Farage is almost certain to "win". There's a reason he chose to stand in Clacton after so many failed attempts at getting elected. All he's done is make an almighty idiot of himself and give more time for further evidence of his dodgy dealings to emerge. But I don't see a universe where Farage stands in Clacton and doesn't get in.

Shmodipshit · 13/08/2026 14:35

There was never a realistic chance of him not being elected. It may end up being a low turn out, due to people not wanting to vote for him, but the majority of voters who turn up will vote for him.

So many people in Clacton still think he is amazing. And they’d have voted for him even if the serious parties had stood candidates. The town doesn’t do itself any favours.

Fingers crossed, eh.

Well! Almost 10K votes isn't too shabby! Clearly people did know he was the protest vote.

I feel like there were quite a few vanity candidates. Count Binface was a poor candidate on which to focus opposition to Nigel Farage. I might not want a Reform MP, but a comedy candidate really isn't much better.
