Division of labour on the beach

Lighthearted and not really an AIBU I suppose! Sat on a beach, UK. I'm currently looking at 3 groups with kids and a male and female adult. Every single one, the man is sat doing nothing or has strolled down to the water. The woman is setting up camp, doing sun screen, answering questions about ice creams. I mean.... Come on!

Hmm, TBF when we do the beach DH does all the packing, carrying of equipment and setting up. If ice cream was a walk away he would also do that. I would do sun creams or activities where I could generally stay sitting down.

Yeah i saw it recently and was quite sad.
One woman was doing absolutely everything whilst he was playing ball with the kids.
When was her time to play i found myself asking.

I generally do suncreams but DH lugs heavy stuff and we set it up together, then he plays with the kids usually while I read or go looking for coffee!

@Totaldramallama same here. Beach trips are 90% DH. He likes to plan/pack the picnic, does most of the carrying, set up/pack down and is the one in the water/playing bat and ball games etc.

I am queen of sandcastles, suncream and sunhats 😅🤣 otherwise I'm sat with a book, if I've remembered to pack it.

Equal division of labour here,

Ablondiebutagoody · 13/08/2026 13:33

I mean that's 5 minutes max. of "work", and mainly sunscreen which is much more conveniently applied before leaving the aircon of the car. If they're like mine, the Dads will probably have to dig holes for much of the afternoon so I wouldn't worry too much.

What was she doing it he was occupying the kids? I do find people seem to make more work for themselves than necessary.

I absolutely hate dealing with lots of stuff at the beach and it all getting sandy. I'd happily go with one small bag and towel. DH likes a chair and a cool box etc etc so that is his responsibility entirely
