I have had the weirdest of afternoons. Virgin media salesman was talking to a neighbour to my left for nearly half hour through her doorbell, I could hear through my front window as only a couple of meters away from our doors which are side by side. Wouldn't give up, really pushy salesman. Then he missed our house (I presume because we are already Virgin customers) and went to my neighbour on my right.
My neighbour on my right is a friend, we get on well. I also know she's not in good health at all, on long waiting lists with the NHS and is quite vulnerable because of feeling so awful. Anyway, I could hear this salesman through my window go on and on at hers too. After 15 mins, and knowing already this man doesn't give up, I went out and just popped my head around the door to ask my neighbour if she's ok. Her answer was 'no, I am not' and she looked really upset so I asked the salesman if he could leave. She had apparently asked several times for him to go and explained why she wouldn't be signing up to Virgin, which he talked over and refused to accept no.
He just blew up, literally screaming at me. I couldn't speak to him easily, if I tried to speak he screamed louder over me. He called me a racist, because he was black and accused me of asking him to leave because he was black. I absolutely detest hate racism so this annoyed me too. I tried to say no, it's because purely he was a pushy salesman and my neighbour has had enough. He just lost it, madder and madder. My partner, who was WFH came out, was threatened by this man 'to floor him' instantly, calling us racists, told his partner to keep me under control and all other nonsense, he said that we'd never come across black people before and it would be a learning experience for us, threatened to bring more of his friends (?) and on he went. I started to film him because he was so angry and he grabbed my phone, which my partner and I managed to grab back.
Asked my neighbour just to go back in, lock the door and we tried to get back into ours, he followed us, screaming, shouting and didn't stop. We got in, shut the door and he carried on screaming at us. Some of it is on doorbell camera too.
I phoned the police who have just taken a record of things, nothing more and I doubt anything will happen going forward. He does seem to work for Virgin as he left a business card with my neighbour which seems legit with working QR codes on it and was wearing Virgin logo stuff.
I am thinking about trying to contact Virgin, but am actually a bit worried about this man and retaliation. What would you do? I just don't him to do this to another vulnerable person, or threaten anyone else so I know that is the right thing but I am genuinely unsettled by this.
