To ask if you’ve had an iron infusion did it help?

And what was your ferritin before and after you had it done?

I’ve been trying to get my ferritin up since I had dd four years ago. The highest I’ve got it was 62 but it’s back down to 18 again now.

I have taken tablets and changed diet but still can’t get it high. If you’ve had an infusion was it ok and did it work?

Yes, highly recommend. I think my ferritin was 5 before referral. I began to feel better within the week. It was some years ago however and I hear they’re much harder to get on the NHS now.

I looked into these but they're around £700-800?! And I've heard that extremely high dose given can make you ill so anxiety is saying no right now.

Yes, mine was transformative and worth the money to me.
my ferritin was… sorry can’t remember the exact number but technically just in the ‘okay according to the NHS’ range.
but as you probably know the range is HUGE.

i had transfusion done privately, and my GP fitted me a Mirena coil which stopped the flooding periods , otherwise I would’ve been needing another transfusion in 2 years I think!

Yes I did. My level was 18 before. I spent a year on iron tablets, which did nothing but make me constipated, or iron liquid, which made my stomach turn. Two years on and my levels are still excellent.
However the infusion REALLY affected my stomach (not sure why, as it goes through your arm), but that went in 2-3 weeks.

P.s the energy high I had the next day was amazing.

Yeah! It’s great! You walk out thinking “Hey this oxygen lark is really rather amazing.”… Meanwhile, it’s also good to find the cause of your deficiency.

Joterrin · 13/08/2026 00:27

Mine was 7 & it went to 226 with the transfusion & I felt AMAZING.
Now 4 years later it’s 34-66 with iron tablets & I need another one but NHS says no & I can’t justify the grand for a private one.

Massively so

I went from being breathless walking up stairs to feeling energetic and happy again within a week or two

AIBUfamilydrama · 13/08/2026 00:59

I can’t remember my levels, but I’ve had an infusion in each of my two pregnancies and it helped massively each time

happydays312 · 13/08/2026 01:00

would definitely recommend….the difference after the first dose was good and then after the second infusion- wow! Sorry I can’t remember numbers - a year ago now but it’s stayed up since too 🥰

Thesoundofmusic23 · 13/08/2026 01:12

Yes! Had two three moths apart on ferritin of 8. Transformative.
