Ryanair not telling me check in is open

AIBU to think this is cheeky given their new rules? You must check in online or face a fine of €55 at the airport. I only found out it was open because I checked the app.

I think it’s really cheeky because each airline has their own rules as to when check in opens!

You’re asking for an unreasonable level of handholding - it’s on you to do a tiny bit of research and organise yourself. They no doubt tell you when check in will open when you book and it’s on their website. It’s a cheap flight on a notoriously no frills airline - that means they’re going to minimise their costs, including imposing a charge (not fine) for people who need staff input at the airport. If you want babysitting through things book with a more expensive carrier - British Airways seem to email every other day in the run up to departure.

Ive just booked with Ryanair and know its online only...either they emailed me or it was on the website

Epoisses · 11/08/2026 15:42

In my confirmation email

Ryanair not telling me check in is open

I don't think it's a massive expectation to think an adult travelling can check if check-in opens 24 or 48 hrs before their flight and organise themselves to be ready, no.

It's called adulting.

purplecorkheart · 11/08/2026 15:43

I haven't travelled Ryanair in years and years but have a flight booked with them in a couple of months. I did get an email from them saying that they had gone online only.

I do not expect an email from them saying check in is open. A week or two before my flight I will check their website and see how long in advance they open check in.

Netcurtainnelly · 11/08/2026 15:44

The things I'm hearing about holiday companies . It's so incompetent, problems all the time. Left hand dosent know what the rights doing.

Bloody awful. They don't tell you this on the TV adverts do they. OTB and TUI seem to have a lot of problems.
Once these firms have your cash they don't want to know.
Enough to make you stay at home .

Johnogroats · 11/08/2026 15:44

They reminded me 48 hours before flight…. But then you have to pay. I set my alarm for 23 hours before flight. All very stressful waiting for extra charges.

Linetree · 11/08/2026 15:44

Ot doesn't matter to them when you check in so long as you do. You know you need to check in surely?

PenelopePinkerton · 11/08/2026 15:46

If you can’t navigate this OP, I’m not sure you should be flying.

Scrubwren · 11/08/2026 15:46

If you need that level of handholding, let me suggest Ryanair isn't the airline for you.

Crumpledsmile · 11/08/2026 15:47

I’ve just flown with Ryanair and I had several emails to remind me to check in. I ended up doing it less than 24 hours before the flight and didn’t get changed any more.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 11/08/2026 15:51

Ryanair are really unforgiving. I was stuck behind someone trying to argue the toss about why he hadn't checked in online- he was saying he'd just bought the last minute ticket so there was not time- they were having none of it and wouldn't let anyone check in until he gave in and paid 50 euros. I think part of flying with them is accepting they will take every chance to take more money off you and that you have to be vigilant. I felt sorry for the guy in this case whose ticket was only about 20 euros!

mamajong · 11/08/2026 15:53

Cheeky of them? Just Google it and make a note fgs!

venmor · 11/08/2026 16:07

It’s cheeky because each airline had their own rules? How do you manage ordinary day to day life? Take responsibility for yourself.

saveforthat · 11/08/2026 16:11

I wonder if this is the same op who posted ages ago wondering why there wasn't an app to alert her if the weather was suitable for drying washing every day.

ColdAsAWitches · 11/08/2026 16:22

You know when you're flying, so presumably you're adult enough to know when the day before that is.
