I've seen the plane land, what other drama is there ?

Backedoffhackedoff · 09/08/2026 20:13

A little bit. It’s giving everyone’s a bit bored tbh since it’s hardly news 🤣 but I love a live coverage it’s compulsive

It's all been such a lurid saga that I doubt the dramatics are over now.
I would not discount a Hollywood-worthy escape, or a top secret plea deal even though our system has no such permutation, and then there’s the basic expectation of a fatal shiv in Portlaoise within his first week.
I think Kinahan mouldering in prison for the rest of his life would be the appropriate result, given what his gang has done to Ireland.

In truth, I’ll be gobsmacked if it turns out this way though, and not on account of assassination nor rescue but due to some shameful reluctance to properly penalise such a famous/rich person

The court drawing of him is very unflattering 😬😬

Should we expect an Epstein type ending?

veryvanessa · 09/08/2026 22:34

There’s a very good four part doc on the iPlayer about him and his father. It’s called Kinahan - Ireland’s Mafia or similar.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 09/08/2026 22:37

Is he connected to the man shot in a bar in Spain last year? Or are they the Scottish ones? Are they kind of similar?

I did watch the plane he was in for a minute and a half this afternoon then I got bored.

His wife and 5 children are still in Dubai. Wonder will she stay there.
The Americans want to interview him too.

ProfessorofDarkArts · 09/08/2026 23:01

I read a lot had been put into the wife’s name but surely if I know that so do the people that matter!

He's the head of one of the largest drugs cartels in Europe.
18 people have been killed as part of the fued between the Kinahan gang and the Hutches.
He's particularly famous as when in exile he set himself up as a boxing promoter and manager and at one time managed Fury and a number of A list boxers.
There was a really good documentary on them a couple of years ago which details all this.

I read a book about the Irish cartels their beginnings and what they become
With all he had a hand in life should be you ain't never getting out.

Liam Byrne is also a significant player in the Kinahan gang and has served prison terms. His son Lee is in a relationship with and has a daughter with Lily Gerrad - daughter of Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard.

No, leader of Ireland’s largest criminal gang, who went from controlling the importation and distribution of all the coke (and other drugs) in Ireland to controlling it all across a very much wider empire.
Multiple very brutal murders, from top dogs to junior runners, have taken place around Dublin (and even Cork) over the years, not to mention all the deaths caused by the drugs themselves, and by the unspeakable means of producing and transporting them of course.
Added to this is the trafficking of other commodities which all international gangs such as Kinahan’s engage in. Stolen art, weapons, and people.
(One reason there is still a paramilitary presence in Northern Ireland long after the Good Friday Agreement is their having dealt with gangs like this over the border to procure guns, and especially drugs to flog up there, as many of these younger thugs on both sides were only ever in it for the access to criminality. But it meant Kinahan himself made links with a lot of very dubious types farther up the chain, and beyond Ireland too)

He is also the money behind a boxing empire, a ‘sport’ that’s always been closely linked to organised crime, and one fighter he is connected to is Conor McGregor.
This must be the rapist you are thinking of, because McGregor is well known for that. Along with his vast coke consumption.

By the way, a far superior tv series to Kin about drug trade in Dublin is Love/Hate. I noticed it’s on Disney of all services, albeit with a different musical soundtrack.
That is one brilliant crime series.
