AIBU to eat a jar of Mrs Elswood burger gherkins a year after opening? Smells alright, tastes alright (still crunchy), no signs of mould. I’ve added a photo - the spots are seeds floating on the surface.

Well vinegar is a preservative 🤷🏻‍♀️

Johnogroats · 08/08/2026 20:26

They’ll be fine (if you like gerkins!)

FMLpassthegin · 08/08/2026 21:43

It wouldn’t occur to me not to

supercrone · 08/08/2026 21:49

They'll be absolutely fine

ShrinkyDinkyPetal · 08/08/2026 21:55

Totally fine

Myfridgeiscool · 08/08/2026 22:04

That’s what pickling is for: to preserve.
If they smell ok and look ok they’ll be good.

likelysuspect · 08/08/2026 22:05

Yep. The clue is in 'preserved foods'

YouSawBrigadoon · 08/08/2026 22:06

They will be fine.

As an aside, we go through a jar of Mrs Elswood gherkins a week!

DaisyChain505 · 08/08/2026 22:12

They’re pickled, you could probably eat those in 5 years time and be fine 🤣

NotAnotherScarf · 08/08/2026 22:38

No because gherkins are the devils verrucas... just walk around any McDonald's, all the right thinking people throw those evil things on the floor...get thee behind me Satan

They'll be better than ever, like wine improves.Nicely matured.
