AIBU to be stressing about Blue Lagoon hair and shower logistics?

We're off to Iceland with the kids and have booked the Blue Lagoon. I'm down to the nitty-gritty and need real experiences!

Hair – I keep reading the silica water can turn your hair to straw. The tip is to apply conditioner before getting in and leave it in while you're in the lagoon. Apparently they provide complimentary conditioner in the shower area. Has anyone actually done this – did it work or did your hair still end up wrecked? Longer hair tie it in a bun too apparently.

Showering – you have to shower without your swimsuit on before entering – mandatory for hygiene. But there are private shower cubicles with doors if you want privacy – has anyone used these? Easy to find? Or is it all open-plan?

Just trying to avoid a bad hair day and an awkward shower situation! Any real experiences appreciated 🙏
Any other advise regarding Iceland would be really appreciated.

All the shower cubicles were open without doors when I went in 2015. There were female staff patrolling to make sure you washed properly in the areas shown on charts.

Nothing bad happened to my hair.

I’d personally take my own conditioner, and coat my hair in the Philip Kingsley swim mask before going. A tight, high bun on top of my head and ensure it’s all entirely slicked back.

Patrolling 😬😬

I went a couple of years ago

Showers all had cubicle doors and were absolutely fine. No staff were patrolling in the changing rooms, but they did ask whether you’d showered when you went through to get in.

I used the conditioner they supplied on my hair and then tied it up in a bun on the top of my head. Then showered and washed my hair when I got out - my hair was absolutely fine.

edited to add - it’s all super easy to find, its all set out in sections as you walk through.

Iceland is amazing, hope you have a fab time!

We went in 2022 and the showers in the womans section had doors on them!

Hair - I wet my hair, slathered conditioner on it and then tied it up in a bun and it was absolutely fine!

Have the best time, Iceland is one of the best holidays we have ever had!

I went in January. Showers are cubicles with hooks to hang your cossie on while you shower. Private and easy and yes easy to find, they are between the lockers and the pool entrance.
I coated my hair in conditioner and tied it in a bun on top of my head. I also used one of those fabric bands around my hairline to be sure. No issues at all with my hair.
Take a waterproof phone case if you want pics in there.
Bar/drinks are paid for by your wristband.
products in the shop are incredibly expensive.
fabulous experience.

I went a few years back. There were some enclosed cubicles for the shy but most people just showered in the communal ones - it isn’t awkward when it’s the culture there, as it would be over here.

There was plentiful conditioner in the showers. I have long thick hair and I wet it and slathered it in conditioner and put it up and it was fine. ISTR that conditioner was available around the lagoon too to reapply, or maybe I went back into the changing rooms. My hair survived fine.

It was an amazing experience as was the whole of Iceland - enjoy!

Watching with interest as going in October and didn’t know any of this

I’ve been twice.

never did much to my hair but yes you can tie it up in a bun so it doesn’t go in the water or put conditioner on it.

there’s little saunas and stuff around the place as well.

Plenty of showers.

I paid through the nose to go to the spa area, and it was one of my favourite experiences ever.

I just tied my hair up, and the showers were private and unpatrolled. There were about ten of us in the whole spa and had a section of the lagoon to ourselves. It was great 😂
