to think it’s easier to take kids out rather than be at home all day???

All I hear in the run up to the summer holidays is
”Kids don’t need to be constantly entertained”
”Kids need more unstructured time”
Which I agree with but today we have been in all day and my kids have spent the whole time either arguing or getting hyper and winding each other up.
It is just really hard to deal with!!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions??? Am I the only one who finds this?

So much easier to go out for the day. If we’re in they’re either watching tv/on screens which is obviously not good, or doing stuff which I then seem to spend the whole day tidying up. Just so much easier and enjoyable all round to have a day out.

I think it’s good to get out even if you just go for a walk , garden , park . I think being in all day is depressing and it’s good to get out for at least two hours a day . Even in school they get outside time .

Yep my kids sound exactly like yours OP! Except that they will often ask to spend time at home, they have lots of toys and garden equipment and space etc so they do like being here, which is great but they can't seem to go five minutes without arguing over something! So I inevitably shout "right! We're going out!" and they moan, but then actually have a really good time mucking about in the woods etc. I have often joked about getting a bugle, at which they must all grab their wellies/crocs/hats etc and line up by the door 🤣

These are not mutually exclusive.

You can (and definitely should!) have unstructured time outside of the house.

I think you've misunderstood if you think that people saying that children should have unstructured time mean they should be indoors all day!
