Do I bother telling someone I’m going on a first date, even though I already know the person?

I was introduced to a man through a mutual friend and have met him in person before in a social setting. We’ve now arranged to meet one-to-one for what is essentially our first date.

This isn’t someone I’ve met on a dating app or a complete stranger. We have mutual friends, I’ve met him before and we’ll be meeting in a public place.

Would you still tell a friend where you’re going and who you’re meeting, purely as a safety precaution? Or would you just go and not think twice about it because you already know the person socially?

I’m not asking whether I should tell the mutual friend specifically (although that would be the person I’d tell), just whether you’d tell anyone.

Is it the sensible thing to do or is that a bit extra in this context?

Don’t you just tell friends in conversation anyway? I think you may be over thinking this one a bit

Schedule a text message to send to a friend for midnight or when you expect the date to end, then cancel it when you get home. Then you’re covered of anything goes wrong but not broadcasting anything if it doesn’t. An iPhone will still send a message even if the phone is smashed up as the scheduled message is saved in iPhone servers.

I wouldn’t. I thought the point of informing a friend with OLD was because you’re meeting a total stranger off the internet.

I did when I met my husband and we’d met through friends. I’d met him a couple of times on group nights out, friends weddings etc before we went on a date. Since I was young for years I’ve had it drummed into me about safety and protecting myself as most women are attacked by someone they know. Keep yourself safe let someone know what you’re up to and enjoy your date knowing that someone knows who your with, where you are and if they haven’t heard from you to check.

In this scenario I really wouldn’t. Just because I’m quite private, I don’t want a friend knowing about my love life before anything has even kicked off.

I wouldn’t want them asking so how did it go? Did he pay the bill? Are you seeing him again?

But that’s just me.
