Do you go out everyday?

I Have a 2 year old and work only two days per week. The rest of the days I just can’t seem to stay home, when DH is off we will stay in one day and I will do deep cleans, besides that I can’t sit home all day. I will take DD to playgroups/park usually have a look in a shop or supermarket, go to see my family etc. Many times I tell myself I will stay home tomorrow and always find an excuse to go out. I feel I’m wasting money unnecessarily due to this, is anyone else like this or is it just me?

I went out everyday with my DC when they were young I went to several church hall toddler groups which were very cheap or to the park or shops. When I went to the shops just for a walk I would think of something that I would look for and buy such as bin bags or a bottle of shampoo, this prevented me browsing and buying random items.
I still go out every day even though it's just me in the house in the daytime sometimes this is just the supermarket or a walk.

My 3 year old really doesn’t like being indoors for too long. On days where we’re home we have to go out for at least an hour as I find it stops him getting too bored and his behaviour deteriorating. Like other posters said, aim to find the free stuff. Today we just went round the block on his bike before walking to a nearby duck pond. We have a list of parks we rotate through as well so it’s not always the same place

I’m just as happy staying in as I am going out. I could spend a whole weekend without leaving the house and not really care.

I don’t even leave the house every week

Any reason for that? I think my mental health would deteriorate so quickly.

MrsClattenburg · Yesterday 21:31

When my kids were little we went to baby groups or saw friends every day - none of us wanted to be at home climbing the walls!

Now we're older, the kids are working a d I WFH and there isn't day where I don't leave the house... the thought is incomprehensible! 😯

Namechangewegovyjune26 · Yesterday 21:33

Just to add OP, it really doesn’t have to cost money if you find free activities (we are always at the library free crafts sessions), go to the park with a packed lunch, walk to a local landmark and back, go to a skate park with a bike or scooter, swimming or soft play are both cheap at the local leisure centre etc.

Namechangewegovyjune26 · Yesterday 21:33

Today we went to a fountain where kids like to splash and took a picnic, I only spent on ice cream :)

I go out once on Sundays most weeks. Rarely outside of that.

What???

Do you not want to get out and see people or get some exercise?

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · Yesterday 21:35

No but I should try ,get bogged down with personal issues.
I have GAD diagnosed..dealing with DWP on my disabled wife's behalf.

Betadelta · Yesterday 21:36

If I'm wfh I may not leave the house all day, but when I had young kids I always did. Kids need to go outside and let off some steam!

TruJay · Yesterday 21:42

Yes, out everyday day. As kids we were out every day with mum too, even now my mum is out every day and goes stir crazy otherwise. Sometimes I go out with my mum, with one child, two children or all three. Or any combination of myself, dh, 3dc and my mum but whatever the combo I leave the house every day. I have the odd weekend day at home but I go in the garden on those days too. Only fully in the house for whole days when poorly.

Needmorelego · Yesterday 21:42

If I had a 2 year old I wouldn't stay in but I have a lump of an 18 year old whose hobby is sleeping now so if I don't need to go out I am happy to stay in.
I can get home delivery for pretty much everything which is brilliant.
All my stuff is at home and there's noise and irritating people outside 😂
Given the choice I am mostly happy to not go out.
(I would prefer it if I had a proper balcony. I only have a Juliet balcony 🙁)

UnintentionalArcher · Yesterday 21:50

Absolutely! I have a nine month old and we do at least one thing out of the house per day, often a swim (which I’m lucky only costs a pound for him and I’m a member anyway, plus it’s minutes from our house). We’ve started with playgrounds since he could sit and go on the swings. I might take him to a class a week depending on costs. Free nursery rhyme sessions at the library, and a couple of cheap playgroups. Plus he’s out every day when we walk the dog.

At home, we have soft play blocks, recently purchased that he loves climbing on, and I often fill the paddling pool (indoors or out depending on weather). He’s so energetic and needs constant stimulation!

I also get out for myself once a day to exercise - lucky that my husband can support this in the evening or early morning.

I would go mad if we didn’t get out!

I could easily spend more than a week at home - but that includes going out into the garden daily for fresh air.. I find it more peaceful and relaxing spending time on my own. So many things to do at home - reading, painting, creative projects, sitting with a cup of tea and my thoughts, writing letters, emails to friends and family. So easy to exercise at home, plus gardening.

I certainly don't go out everyday, if I can help it, and have zero desire to do so. I have the nous to understand that others will feel differently. Thank goodness we are all different, I would hate to have to go out every single day.

bIibbIob · Yesterday 22:09

Nowhere near!

Also have an upcoming two year old but by the time we’ve waved DH off to work, DS is changed and dressed, I’m ready and dressed, breakfast is done, teeth are done, bags are packed, made sure I’ve got everything, I’d probably only have an hour or so before I’d have to head back home to wind down before his nap.

I find it easier to go out after his nap but again, let’s say he wakes at 2, then it’s lunchtime, changing, packing bags etc, it’s probably 3!

It’s definitely easier to leave the house at weekends as DH and I can divide and conquer all the jobs!

Same. Staying at home day after day would make me feel physically unwell. I can’t relate to people choosing to live like this.

I’m the opposite. I love staying in. I would get stressed and exhausted with having to do something out everyday.

I love the peace of home

You and me both. I go out most days during the week. The gym. Pop to the shops or a cafe etc. but I’m very happy to stay in all day

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · Yesterday 22:13

No, it's because of anxiety and depression and Im not happy about.

I very rarely stay indoors. Same as other posters, it makes me feel a bit ill if I’m indoors all day! Even if I just go out to get a coffee, I have to get out. I love my home and I love spending time there but I like to get out every day. It’s good for me mentally

Pedant61 · Yesterday 22:42

No. I can happily stay in the house for 48 hours or so - I always have books to read, so I'm never bored.
Maybe with kids, I'd get them out but, as an adult, I'm happy to be at home on my own.

VictoriaEra · Yesterday 22:45

Yes. Feel slightly unwell if I stay in all day. I work from home now so it’s trickier but try to at least go out in evenings if I cannot make it work in the day.

Do you have a young child or children though like the OP? That makes a massive difference. I can potter at home with the best of them, but not when the children were young

Is that due to ill health? Or just a preference?

Preference. Though when I have had issues with anxiety in the past it has caused me to spend weeks and weeks at a time at home. Since covid though I haven’t had those issues as it changed office requirements and lifestyles which suited me.

I work from home and I prefer to just relax and watch tv when I’m finished, plus my son and husband used to play golf 5-7 days a weeks so I got stuck in a bit of a rut that became my new normal.

I do go out more now, and I’ve realised I need to make more of an effort, I just can’t be bothered a lot of the time.
