What on earth are people thinking?

God it's so tedious. I just ask for a proper cup. It's not fun burning your hand. I'm not a child. I don't need telling off. I can judge if it is too hot to hold, thanks. Jesus we don't need to be 'educated' about fecking cups 🙄

Most pretentious award goes to the coffee shop that served it in a test tube 😆 And it was rank.

You win most absurd receptacle for a coffee to be served in.

Stupid fad, like serving drinks in Kilner/Mason jars or food served on pieces of slate and, dare I say it, "grazing tables".

We look back now at the 60s and 70s and smile at the cubes of cheese and pineapple on sticks but not as daft as not being served food on a proper plate.

Firstly the cups in Europe are very very small because they serve espresso or macchiato or cortado and the coffee tends to be served very slightly cooler. Secondly the majority of service in Europe is a small cup with a small handle on the side, they are the most common type of cup.

I got my latte in a plastic Maccys type cup at tge Eiffel tower. Was a bit painful to touch.

Lol, I’m American and while handleless cups aren’t the norm here, my favorite coffee cup doesn’t have one and I've somehow managed never to burn my hands because I hold it near the top until it cools down enough to hold normally. It really isn’t the flaming ceramic death trap you’re making it sound like.

I had one of those, but not a glass it was a ‘cup’ with no handle.

I REALLY embarrassed myself by telling them they had served my coffee in a sugar bowl.

I haven’t been back. They probably remember me. ☺️

So glad to hear others feeling like this! Ive hated this for years and now make a point every time i receive a hot coffee in a stupid cup to ask them to pour it into a proper cup with a handle!

i am still hoping that they will get the idea - but not so far …….

Says who? I drink coffee from a glass cup with no handles every day, it’s not hot to touch.

Don’t come to Australia then- we have our lattes in glasses. I love it and have never burned my hands or had any trouble picking them up maybe they are making your coffee too hot? And I don’t think it’s a fad it’s been 2 decades since I got here and I’ve rarely had a latte in a mug. Flat whites, cappuccino and long blacks go in mugs 😁

I had this in a very good but rather pretentious coffee shop. I sat there for a while contemplating said 'cup' and getting annoyed before going up to the counter and demanding a cup with handles. Now I just specify when I go in.

If you’re happy to drink chai or Turkish tea out of one it’s the cup that’s the issue not the fact you can’t hold it because it’s hot?

Or perhaps I don't want to sit at a table that's had used spoons all over it.
