NC to post, reason why will be clear

Last night I commented on a thread giving some personal and sensitive information.
This morning I was scrolling through Facebook (account is not linked) and information linked to this specific issue came up e.g. one of those AI narrated stories about almost exactly the situation I’d described. It could not have been chance as it was specific.

I’m scrupulous in locking down my FB account (have to due to profession) and declining cookies, even spending ages going through ‘legitimate interest’ lists declining them individually. But data from mumsnet was still transferred to FB and who knows where else!

I’m more IT literate than many but not an IT professional, how many people are and truly know how to protect themselves?

So AIBU in wanting you to know what you post here might be shared with lots of other apps and places, taking away your anonymity.

Oh yes , a few weeks ago I posted on here that dh and I were having some issues, and for a solid week after fb just threw up divorce offers and advice at me.

This is not new. Algorithms pick on everything when collecting data. It doesn't matter what firewalls and preventatives you have - The internet gathers everything and then modifies what adverts/articles are presented to you. Even when you're talking, your phone can listen and present you with adverts based solely on your last conversation.

I agree. It's a public forum and I would expect data to be shared.

There are things you can do

I use the app so I don’t really get impacted by adverts. I’d be tempted by the selecting what posters have said what in a thread though!

Its not just ads tho. Is also a there reason we can't delete comments ?
