Is this unhygienic?!

I have an Airbnb on my property. It’s basically a tiny home at the bottom of our large garden with an amazing view. Most people come for the weekend by train and I don’t want people to spend their holiday shopping for stuff like coffee, tea, milk or having to cram suitcases full of toiletries or beach towels so I provide all of those. I also provide a little evening snack (crisps usually) some wine to watch the sun set on the deck with and fruit from the garden and a croissant and jam for breakfast. People love it and I make it quite clear on my ads that these things are provided.
Just got a review from a couple who stayed with us a few days ago. They gave us a good review but took one star off and in her private message to me she said ‘We loved our stay with you but we weren’t very happy that the toiletries are in big shared bottles rather than individual use. This is obviously very unhygienic (we don’t know who has used them!!) so we had to make the trip to buy some for ourselves which was an expense and effort we weren’t expecting’.
To be clear I offer Aesop Shower Gel, Shampoo and Conditioner in the shower and Aesop Hand Wash by the sink in 500ml bottles. They get replaced when empty which is usually about every 10 months
AIBU to think this is not unhygienic?!

Surely this is the same as when you’ve got those bottles fixed to the wall in the shower at a premier inn or equivalent? They just unscrew the top and refill but the bottle stays the same? God people really do like to nit pick.

Why not? Do you think you'll get "other person" germs off them? Guess what? They're already everywhere.

I'd be surprised and delighted just to have Aesop toiletries in any format - lovely touch and totally normal to have big bottles. Hate the waste of individual ones.

No one forces her to use the toiletries provided. Carry on as you are.

Do you bring your own soap everytime you use a public toilet to avoid the communal handwash?

It's annoying to lose the star rating but anyone reading the reviews will probably work out the guest is a snob.

Most large hotels use big bottles now. I don’t see what is unhygienic about them. Perhaps she was
miffed because she couldn’t take them!

It's not unhygienic, and it's more usual than small bottles in hotels now ime.

Is the holder they're in one that stops people being able to take the pump lids off? If not, perhaps that something you can consider? If it is then she's certifiably batshit.

There is the potential for someone to put something disgusting or dangerous in the bottle if it's accessible, and while the vast majority of people wouldn't think of it there are people out there who are utter weirdos.

Your system is absolutely normal for hospitality settings these days, and the right thing to do for ecological reasons.

Removing a star for such a ridiculous reason is very unfair, and I'd be irritated, too.

This is the kind of thing they are in. Also Aesop bottles are pretty opaque. It’s not really possible to see how much is inside.

I actually always have soap sheets in my bag. For public toilets. I don’t mind using it at my mum’s/friend’s houses.

Far better for the environment to have larger Refillable bottles!

Can someone explain exactly why it’s unhygienic and how they cope when out and about?

I stay in hotels regularly at least 2-3 times a month and pretty much all them have dispensers with shower gel and normally shampoo / conditioner

i didn’t say it was unhygienic just that I wouldn’t use them. Because those small toiletries would be mostly finished and you could bin it.
