AIBU to ask for these ads to be stopped? They are making the site unusable for me

@mumsnet Why do I have these ads covering half the page that cannot be closed? Started in the last couple of days.

I was about to post the same thing. I’ve clicked on that fucking Hoseason’s advert by mistake at least a dozen times. I want to know about stinky partners, not bastardising caravans.

BigWig78 · 23/07/2026 07:30

For me as an emetophobic person the stupid thread-style adverts about bloody sickness bugs has been putting me off for ages!

TreesinthePark · 23/07/2026 07:33

They're driving me mad! I appreciate the website needs ads but these are covering the actual text of threads I want to read - can't be moved or closed.

And now I’ve got gambling shite! Come on, Mumsnet, you’re better than this.

Betadelta · 23/07/2026 07:35

Would you consider the premium membership? I'm on MN quite a lot so it's worth it for me.

JumpingRabbit · 23/07/2026 07:36

Download the Duck Duck Go browser, it stops all of this. I had to stop using the site before as my iPhone couldn’t cope.

TreesinthePark · 23/07/2026 07:39

@Betadelta I wouldn't pay tbh amd I don't object to ads in principle. It seems very counter productive to cover half a thread with an ad though.

@JumpingRabbit thanks, I'll give it a go

Could you use the app? It’s fine on the app.

Why should we have to pay to be spared the constant adverts popping up? Posters provide content free of charge, and are inconvenienced by these constant ads popping up all the time. Just greedy on the part of MN. If it gets too much, I just won't bother coming on here.

Esmeraldathe3rd · 23/07/2026 07:43

Yeah it's driving me mad. They're deliberately making the site unusable unless you pay

TreesinthePark · 23/07/2026 07:48

Update: I'm now logged in via Duck Duck Go and its much better!

As I say, I appreciate ads are needed to fund the site so if they can fix that particular issue, I would use chrome and accept normal ads.

I was about to post a similar thread. Some weight loss ad is filling half my screen with no X to get rid of it.
I used to use the duck duck go app to avoid MN ads but deleted it when I got a bit complacent. I've just reinstalled it.

Iwantanothergo · 23/07/2026 07:53

I think you need to post this on Site Stuff, not AIBU.

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/07/2026 07:54

MNHQ are unlikely to see this thread unless you draw their attention to it - best way is to report it & ask them to move it to Site Stuff. I don’t think the @mumsnet works.

flapjackfairy · 23/07/2026 07:55

this has already been reported and they have been trying for the last day or so to resolve the issue. They have apologised on site stuff that it is taking longer than they expected so hopefully it will get resolved some time soon.

TreesinthePark · 23/07/2026 08:01

@flapjackfairy and @Iwantanothergo ah, I wasn't aware of the sitestuff area. I'm only ever here or the style&beauty pages.

Sounds like mumsnet are on the case though and it will hopefully be resolved soon.

Stump up for MN premium, problem solved!
