Am I being unreasonable to overthink condoms?

Hi everyone so am I being unreasonable here or not. Just out of interest. So my partner of 9 months he has a pack of condoms in his. Just out of the way in a separate room in a drawer he told me he bought them like 2 years ago (way before I even knew him) and just brought them when he moved into this house away from his mums when him and his ex girlfriend broke up. I’m asking this because me and him used one tonight I’m sorry for the tmi but I’m on my period and just felt more comfortable using one. So that’s how the topic came up. I have the mirena coil in so we don’t generally use condoms. It’s durex ones and on the box it says expiry date 2029. So I’m not sure how long condoms last haha. Am I over thinking this?? Do men just randomly keep them.

I can see why he would have some. Why throw them away? Don't they have an expiry date on the packet?

LadyLooo · 22/07/2026 23:24

Do you think he’s having sex with another woman?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/07/2026 23:25

If the expiry is 2029 then you’re fine.

ViaRia01 · 22/07/2026 23:25

Yes I think men and women do keep condoms available at home in case the opportunity to use one comes up. I don’t understand what about this you think is strange?

oviraptor21 · 22/07/2026 23:26

I think it's usually about a 5 year best before.

Does this mean he bought them in 2024 ?

Someone will turn up and mention a “posh wank” any minute…

Ponderingwindow · 23/07/2026 00:48

having condoms around if you aren’t in a long term monogamous relationship is pretty normal. Everyone should use them in the beginning of a relationship, even if there is other birth control present.

BauhausOfEliott · 23/07/2026 02:30

Why wouldn’t he keep them? What else would you expect him to do with them? It’s totally normal and sensible to keep them.

If the expiry date is 2029 he almost certainly bought them before he met you.

😂

I was just thinking that!

TheVeryAngryBanana · 23/07/2026 06:08

They're really expensive! Of course you don't just throw them away if they're still in date. We didn't even do that symbolically when we were trying to conceive.

WyattCallow · 23/07/2026 06:30

It's useful to try using a condom on your own. There are different sizes for example. It saves embarrassing, passion killing fumbles when it matters.

She literally tells us the expiry date in her post.

Flamingojune · 23/07/2026 06:41

Why do you use them on your period

parkezvous · 23/07/2026 06:44

He’s prob had them ages. They usually have a long expiry date. Bottom line here is if you don’t trust him you need to talk to him!

ThePoetsWife · 23/07/2026 06:46

Why do you have periods when you have a mirena coil? This is supposed to stop you from having periods

DozyCrow · 23/07/2026 06:47

I googled it and they last around 5 years. If they have an expiry of 2029 they were likely manufactured in 2024. I don't know how long shops keep such things in their current stock before replacing them.

Not for everyone.
Had a Mirena for many years, always had v light periods.

Owninterpreter · 23/07/2026 07:13

I assume you are trying to work out if he bought them before he was with you, based on the expirey date? Or whether they are a more recent purchsee indicating an affair?

It sounds like he could have bought them in 24 which tallies with what he said.

pompittypom · 23/07/2026 07:25

Men and women “just randomly keep them”. It’s completely normal. You’ve only been together 9 months. He’s had those condoms longer than he’s known you! What are you worried about?

Not just at the beginning

HIV etc doesn’t vanish as love grows

Does it matter why?

blankcanvas3 · 23/07/2026 14:09

We have condoms in our bedroom and DH had a vasectomy 6 months ago! Totally normal

clearlyy · 23/07/2026 14:25

I’ve been with the same man a year and still have condoms in my drawer from before we met. I did sleep with other people before him.

Honeyhonayboo · 23/07/2026 14:27

You used a condom with him but at the same time you’re annoyed he owns them?

You’re in a relatively short term relationship, it would be very weird to bin condoms because he used them before you, particularly when he actually does use them with you too.
