Is it normal for dogs to yap constantly?

Our ndn have two small dogs and every time one of the people come in the dogs just yap for 5 minutes.

It didn’t bother me at first and I actually love dogs but it’s starting to drive me mad. The walls are thin so you can hear everything.

It’s only when the owners come home but as they are in and out all day you never know when the dogs are going to start, I’ve been unwell lately and have been having to nap in the day but its impossible with the yappy dogs, I also wfh a couple of days a week and the dogs are either yapping or they’re left alone and they’re whining and howling all day.

I had pet dogs growing up and I don’t remember the dogs being so noisy.

I’ve never seen the dogs being taken for a walk and I’m just wondering if they are bored dogs and that’s why they are so noisy.

It is normal if nobody is bothering to train them in basic good manners!

It can be normal for some depending on the breed and environment. Every dog is different.

Some breeds like the sound of their own voice more than others, but they can be trained - maybe not to stop completely, but to shut up after a couple of barks. The whining and howling when left can be solved too, although separation anxiety can be a tough one to crack (you use other things like dog daycare or not leaving them whilst you do the training).

I feel your pain, having suffered ndn's never-ending series of toy poodles for the last quarter of a century. They yap each other into a hysterical frenzy.
