AIBU to think street harassment of women is getting worse?

I'm feeling that street harassment of women by men is getting worse in spite of recent laws. Yesterday i went to Woolwich to do food shopping, with frequent stops to rehydrate and snack. In all 3 public places, sitting on benches minding my own business i suffered 3 different situations of male aggression, random grotty men demanding my attention and calling me nasty names when i ignored them. One half naked sweaty bloke, one random shuffling old bloke trying to get money from me, and 2 nasty blokes smoking dope. For refusing to pay attention to them i got called the usual nasty names men hurl at women when we won't do their bidding. Honestly, women should be allowed to carry tazers. I'm heartily sick of being made to feel i have to put up with this or stay at home.

No I think it has got better . You don’t hear cars horns beeping at women or hear of utter filth being shouted out of the windows of vans and cars . Employers who not tolerate it anymore and women who report it get taken seriously by the police.

Ok, some of us lead very different lives. I shop in a variety of food shops in an actual high street, remember those? To get the best prices as i am on a limited budget, and shopping for one, which is why i don't shop online. I'm talking about having stops to rehydrate and rest a bit in a heatwave as i have to use public transport and then WALK -, to a variety of shops. I'm obviously living in the wrong century for most of you as i don't have a car and i don't get everything delivered. Is that ckearer? I'm NOT disabled or obese btw.

I can only imagine that you all protest so much about street harassment because you NEVER ACTUALLY WALK DOWN A HIGH STREET

I have this when I go to our high street. There’s a lot of very aggressive beggars who congregate at the top of the high street on benches. Always get approached at least two or three times walking through this area. It’s horrible and very intimidating. Very big problem with street drinking and drug taking.

I absolutely believe you OP. I’m simply sharing my own experience as someone who has always walked a lot (am on a high street that I walked to right now) that it seems better where I live than in my youth and my DCs (who also walk a lot) don’t seem to have experienced the hassle that I was aware of when I was their age so I don’t think it’s just me getting older.

My DD was horrified by the man waggling his tongue in her face when she walked past him in Spain. Thiis appeared to be new to her which did surprise me. There are arseholes out there.

I’m not trying to negate your own personal experience of street harassment.

I don't even drive, so I walk down the high street at least once a day every day.
