What to get for someone who’s child is poorly

My child’s teacher had to have time away from school due to a poorly child who is having to spend months and months in hospital. We never properly got to say goodbye or thank her before she left and now my child is in year 6 and leaving this week I wanted to get her something for her to say thank you. The school have done brilliantly fundraising so I think it’s ok to get something for her and not to do with her child. That’s appropriate isn’t it? Just wanted to double check my thoughts that it is.

How old is the child? A lovely book to read to them would work if you wanted to get something that covered them both but I think it's fien to get your child's class teacher a present for jist them.

Nicu / picu some nice hand cream for all the steralsing.
A DECENT lidded cup that keeps stuff hot.
An Amazon voucher (depending on hospital, lots of them have Amazon boxes now)

I dispose the point is when will she get it?

She’s nearly two and been in hospital sadly nearly all her life so far. I might look to see what shops are by the hospital that she might be able to get to if I got a voucher. Thank you for replying, Waterstones is nearby to me so a book is a lovely idea also.

I did something similar for a friend going through a difficult time, but I had longer to sort it out and I knew what she liked.

I covered a small cardboard box (might have been a shoe box) in pretty wrapping paper, put in it a small bottle of her favourite wine, a small box of local fudge, some bath products, hand lotion and a book by a particular author, and plumped it up with tissue paper and other packing materials.

Not having so much time and materials to hand, then some hand and/or body lotion and some nice chocolate in a pretty bag would be perfectly acceptable, I would have thought. And a card signed by you and your child wishing her and her family well.

I think it's ok to get something for her as you want to say thank you to her for being your childs teacher. I'd wouldn't go for something that is linked to her child being ill (as you're thanking her for being a teacher) but a voucher for a shop/cafe she can easily get to at/by the hospital is a great idea.
