AIBU to be annoyed about a retailer not answering my calls re potentially left bank card there

Yesterday, I visited a town around 18 miles away to meet a friend. On the way back I visited a clothed which is the nearest one to me. Bought an item of clothing there which I tried on in the shop

Noticed when I went food shopping this morning I couldn’t find my bank card. Had another card on me.

I have been trying to ring the shop and its customer service number (national number) several times today and nobody is answering the phone.

I am having to drive 36 mile round trip just now to check if they have my card.

Just cancel it and get a new one. Annoying though!

FionnulaTheCooler · 18/07/2026 17:12

Just cancel it and have the bank issue a new one. I'd have done that the minute I noticed it was missing, to be honest, especially if it can be used contactless.

BlueMum16 · 18/07/2026 17:12

Surely you cancelled the card as soon as you knew it was missing.

Order a new one

Duckagogo · 18/07/2026 17:12

Loulou4022 · 18/07/2026 17:12

Just cancel it. It may even not be at the shop and you’ve lost it elsewhere!

somanychristmaslights · 18/07/2026 17:13

So you didn’t cancel your card?? First thing I’d be doing is checking my bank statements. Always cancel your card as soon as you lose it.

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 18/07/2026 17:15

Just cancel your card and get a new one. TBH it’s your fault you lost it, not sure why you are displacing your anger on the shop you may have left it in.

stichguru · 18/07/2026 17:17

You've presumably cancelled your card anyway. You are ringing a national number which presumably goes through to some sort of office that won't be staffed on a Saturday, and won't know if the shop in question has your card even if you do get through. The shop floor might just be busy.

The banking app has a freeze card feature. My parents and I are going to meet family tomorrow and can do a detour of a mile to a shop

I’m always losing my card, it is never in the store that I am convinced that I left it in. Cancel the card immediately.

Ponoka7 · 18/07/2026 17:33

They are supposed to return cards to the bank. Unless local and they know you, you might find they won't hand it over, even with a passport. Just cancel it.

Cgko · 18/07/2026 18:11

When visiting the shop tomorrow if it’s not there, I can reorder a new card. No transactions since misplaced card.

If it’s there I can unfreeze card on app.

its general hassle of getting a new card, PIN etc

Well you’re not driving 36 miles just to see, then, are you?

Of course you should have cancelled it when you realised it was missing.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 18/07/2026 18:16

You won’t get a new pin for a replacement card

Well the freeze option is literally for these situations. Why do you need to cancel a card when you may be able to get it back?

NuffSaidSam · 18/07/2026 18:26

This is happening because you weren't careful with your card not because they don't staff customer services on a Saturday/the shop floor staff are busy.

Don't shift the blame onto someone else. This is on you.

Point taken. But in that case, her hyperbole about a 36-mile round trip if mummy and daddy are driving her on the way to see family is then an even bigger fuss over not much.

No it isn't. I completely forgot that the relatives I am visiting tomorrow moved. The shop is only a half a mile detour from the main road. They live around 10 miles further away

Get a new card anyway. If it’s been found, someone has access to all the information on the card. Someone could have written the details down. Just get a new one.
