Cannabis use is driving me mad

As it has been quite warm recently, I’ve had the windows open every day. I only moved into this home last year. Since I’ve had my windows open I have noticed that someone keeps walking past my garden (it backs onto a public pathway and a main road) and pacing whilst smoking cannabis and it is driving me mad. The smell is in my home within seconds of me noticing, stinking out all of the downstairs. I have children who’ve noticed it and I’d rather their lungs weren’t polluted in this way.

Its every single day! I’m pretty sure it’s a neighbour on my road further down, who does it whilst on the phone. When I’ve gone out before though, I’ve just missed him so have never caught him in the act.

I looked it up on ChatGPT (I know, I know) and they’ve said it should be reported to the police as antisocial behaviour. I’m reluctant to do this as I feel like surely the police have bigger things to be dealing with than my issues. Also, I’m then worried that it becomes something that might need to be recorded and disclosed when selling my house, if I ever chose to do so in the future. Does anyone know any great ways to just cut out the smell or anything productive I can do to get it to stop?

Could you try “shouting” (loud enough for them to hear) to someone who doesn’t exist inside your house something like “that twat is out there stinking the place up with weed again, can you call the police?” - I’m sure they’ll soon scarper and find somewhere else to do it.

Or go outside and call out and tell whoever it is that the smell is affecting your children and can they please go and smoke it at their own house or you’ll be forced to report them for antisocial behaviour.

If you can actually see them and get to them before they disappear, I’d try going and talking to them politely to start with - if you ask them if they’d mind doing it somewhere else you’d appreciate it as you don’t want your house to smell of weed and for people to think it’s you smoking it with children in the house. Hopefully they’ll happily just move somewhere else.. and piss off someone else as they clearly don’t want the smell at home.

I do feel for you, the smell is vile.

Think I’d make a poster and tack it on the fence just saying ‘we smell you smoking weed out here - keep it up and we will call the cops. We have CCTV footage of you. ‘

The police won't bother their arse over this sadly the stink of weed is so prevelant in the UK.
We've two in our block of flats and it reeks
So understand the nuisance factor.

Yeah we used to live near a HMO of weed smokers it was awful in summer and the police couldn’t give less of a fuck. They pick and choose which laws to follow unfortunately, this is one that very few (if any) will bother with. It’s ridiculous because getting their hands on dealers would likely lead them back to organised crime gangs that they claim they want to sort. Really I’m not sure what the point of the police is these days, they don’t seem to proactively investigate anything.
