Chocolate ice cream

I hate chocolate ice cream but it always seems to be the main option in restaurants. My DH thinks I'm the only one who doesn't like it. Btw this is just a little bit of fun before you all come at me.

Yabu = it's lovely
Yanbu = it's rotten

It's not my favourite but I do like it.

More to the point I don't think I've ever seen it as the "main option" on a menu. It's usually one of at least 3-5 options so not sure what the issue is...

I love it. I make this fantastic one from BBC good food which is very easy if you like the idea of chocolate ice cream but don’t think bought stuff is chocolatey enough.

Oh dear lord. I'm doomed.

Defiantly41 · 17/07/2026 20:53

@DreamingOfGeneHuntWaitrose Santo Domingo No 1 chocolate ice cream will change your mind, it’s really, deliciously chocolatey

EwwSprouts · 17/07/2026 20:54

Co op Venezuelan chocolate ice-cream was divine but they don't seem to stock it at the moment.

hellospring26 · 17/07/2026 20:56

Cheap chocolate ice cream is awful and doesn’t resemble chocolate. Decent chocolate ice cream is delicious.

minipie · 17/07/2026 20:56

I really like it. Don’t like chocolate cake though

SqueakyFromme · 17/07/2026 20:58

KrazyKatty · 17/07/2026 20:07

I like it if it’s decent quality ice cream like the stuff sold in Lidl or local small businesses.

Definitely not if it’s made by Walls.

Their Belgian chocolate ice cream is very nice

toastofthetown · 17/07/2026 21:01

What restaurants have chocolate as the main option. Almost every restaurant I’ve been to has vanilla as the main ice cream to pair with the other puddings alongside cream and custard. And some restaurants also have an ice cream and sorbet selection, which often includes chocolate but none of those is more ‘main’ than any of the others. What would that even look like?

Ice cream and sorbet - CHOCOLATE, honeycomb, pistachio, rhubarb, lavender and honey, Alphonso mango sorbet (Ve), blackcurrant sorbet (Ve)

Combo of choc, strawberry and vanilla 😋 divine in a wafer

Neapolitan ice cream? Dislike that also 😬. I'm very fussy 🤣

There's a lot of bad chocolate ice cream, but when you get a good one it can be amazing. My favourites are hazelnut and coffee which you don't see much on menus here

The options were fruit sundae, black forest gateaux or the ice cream option unfortunately. I don't like fruit in ice cream it black forest 😐

I love the real deal, but anything chocolate flavoured, including ice cream, is just nasty.

Defiantly41 · 19/07/2026 07:35

@TheCurious0range, me too, hardly ever see hazelnut ice cream here. The Waitrose No 1 Colombian coffee ice cream is fantastic, proper coffee flavour and rich and creamy. (Also love their Santo Domingo chocolate ice cream mentioned earlier in the thread)

namechange62 · 19/07/2026 09:00

I've got the Ben and Jerry's ice cream cookbook and a Ninja Creami.. making their chocolate ice-cream is VERY expensive but tastes amazing.. don't make it much because of the cost..

MsRinky · 19/07/2026 20:24

I don’t usually like it but had some Ottolenghi malted chocolate stuff last week which was lovely.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 19/07/2026 20:30

Chocolate ice cream is the stuff of the devil.

(From a complete chocoholic.)

TheClocksFast · 19/07/2026 20:33

I love ice-cream… and chocolate and cake - but I really don’t like chocolate ice-cream.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 19/07/2026 20:38

I don't think I've been to a restaurant
with just chocolate ice cream as a dessert.
I'm not a huge fan, but describing it as, "rotten", is weird.

FunPreventionOfficer · 19/07/2026 20:43

Would never let my DC have it because I didn’t want to deal with a young child’s face, hands, clothes and whatever else was touched covered in it.

RosemaryMintSageThyme · 19/07/2026 20:49

Either too rich or too oily, or both. OTOH I would love a cucumber ice cream!

MinnieCoops · 19/07/2026 20:59

I love chocolate but not ice cream

pastapestoparmesan · 19/07/2026 21:13

I don’t like it. It’s too sticky and completely non-refreshing.

Marry me

hahabahbag · 19/07/2026 21:18

I like good chocolate ice cream but never order in in restaurants, it’s usually on the kids menu isn’t it? Best chocolate ice cream ever was the gelato place near south ken tuber, toying with going to London under the pretence of going to the proms purely to buy some from there

climbintheback · 19/07/2026 21:27

Choice of 3 last week choc, strawberry or vanilla £2.50 per scoop so had all 3 - ice cream in 26 degrees whats not to like!
