AIBU to prefer hosting friends for a weekend over visiting them?

Do you prefer to go away for the weekend to a friends house or for them to come and stay with you for the weekend?

I’m talking about friends who live 2.5h plus away.

Just a bit of fun but interested to see what the general consensus is!

YABU - prefer to visit them
YABNU - prefer them to stay with me

Neither 😂. I’d go stay in a hotel/b&b near them
or have them do the same.

I don't mind. We do both.

I’m happy to host but if I’m going elsewhere I prefer to book accommodation somewhere.

I quite like visiting, then we can leave whenever we want. Some people, as much as I like them, seem to linger for hours!

I’m with you op. Love to host, loathe staying with other people.

I reckon that some people are good hosts and some are good guests, but very few people are both. Personally I'm an excellent considerate and helpful guest but a mediocre host - I do my best but I don't have the gift for anticipating visitors' needs that some people do.

I hate both - I’d meet them half way for the afternoon and that’s all.

I like sleeping in my own bed and also having my toddler in his own room rather than sharing, we all sleep much better!!
I also do like hosting though and not having a long drive!

I prefer to visit than host - but I do try to be a courteous guest, do not arrive empty handed and am always prepared to buy breakfast/lunch out if appropriate as a way of saying thank you.

When can I come?

Friend insisted on hosting as they’re convinced they’re house/grounds are best. We don’t visit anymore as it’s just insulting 🤷‍♀️

I love to see my friends and come home and relax without doing either. I can host but I find it tiring. I am a good guest, but prefer my own bed ultimately.

That is quite rude. My house is better than yours vibes.

Some houses are set up better for hosting than others, tbh

We love hosting! I do like visiting friends/family too but find I never sleep so well, either sound carries foo much of the bedrooms are hot and stuffy or were all in one room and the kids wake at the butt crack of dawn :( Nothing worse than being wakened for the day at 5.30am in a house not your own and wondering when you can creep downstairs to put the kettle on!

Both are great. I'm so glad I had space to squeeze them in and that I have friends with nice houses I can go and visit.

Much prefer hosting to visiting, though not because I’m good at it. I just find it easier to be around people if I’m a bit busy.

I am absolutely a 'prefer to visit' person, but it is very much frowned upon on so many MN threads, if you accept hospitality but don't then reciprocate.

Good to hear someone feeling it is preferable to host people.
I don't mind driving, which is a factor for some people, but I am a terrible cook - it stresses me greatly to cook for other people, and however much I plan and take care, it rarely ends up being something particularly nice.

And from the other side of the fence it is great to hear that I am not being selfish asking people to come to me. I'm genuinely surprised, but pleased.

I love hosting. I love socialising with friends without having to leave my own home and my house is well set up for people to stay as the spare bedroom is nice and big and has an ensuite bathroom. I enjoy planning the meals and making sure there are great drinks and snacks.

I liked @JoanOgden comment that people are either a good host or guest too and think that is very true. The friends who tend to visit or stay with me are all great guests and a pleasure to host.

@Alpsk1 I’m a very good host, but prefer not to as I hate the 3 day deep clean prior to guests arrival. I’m a good guest too, but prefer my own space at the end of the day, so would much rather stay in a rented house close by.
