To hate sand?

It gets into every crevice.
It sticks to everything.
It stubbornly refuses to be rinsed off.
It reappears months after you've been to the beach.

Aaargh!!!

Have you been to Whistling Sands near Aberdaron? Very exciting sand that squeaks when you walk on it.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 17/07/2026 14:30

I get that it is kind of annoying to clean but it’s far preferable to shingle. Love the feeling of sand on my feet.

AhDell · 17/07/2026 22:17

Just emptied my beach bag which I had already emptied earlier, and yep, sand!

No I haven't @Housewife2010 , though I'm sure @Oliveoy would enjoy it 😆

Dont go to the beach?

PrimeSeason · 17/07/2026 22:24

I love soft, pale sand. It’s total bliss for me, lying on the beach and running my hands through it. Instant relaxation.

My husband always thought he hated sand but, over decades or corrective therapy, I’ve managed to complete the brain-washing.

ScrambledEggs12 · 17/07/2026 22:38

It's not so bad if you have a bidet where you're staying to wash your feet in - see also recent AIBU post about bidets.

SpareVanKeys · 17/07/2026 22:48

Can recommend Croatia for a sand free holiday.

Kingdomofsleep · 17/07/2026 22:53

Yanbu, it's nature's glitter. I hate glitter.

But I really really love the sea so that's the price you have to pay... unless you find a rocky or pebble beach, which is a win-win solution

AhDell · 18/07/2026 07:44

Ah yes, I can attest to Croatia's sand free waters - absolutely beautiful!
We were there 3 years ago

Sand and beaches are very overrated IMHO. Give me a nice countryside walk any day.

jojojoeyjojo · 18/07/2026 08:06

This thread reminds me of a poem by Judith Nicholls called picnic… it was one of my kids favourites and even though they are all adults now we still chant it whenever we are sat on a beach.

Picnic
There's ...
ham with sand, and spam with sand, there's chicken paste and lamb with sand; oranges, bananas, lemonade or tea;
bread with sand
all spread with sand - at least the sand comes free!
We've crisps with sand and cake with sand -
it's grand with lunch or tea - crunch it up, enjoy it, love,
at least we're by the sea!

Passwordsaremynemesis · 18/07/2026 08:09

The beach is my happy place. Luckily I live 5 mins away from this one.😃

I love the beach, sand and all. It’s instant calm for me.

Love this. I haven’t had a chicken paste sandwich since about 1986!
I love the beach but a beach picnic isn’t my favourite, I prefer fish and chips without sand!

Bit boring imho, no offence. Grin

Anakin, is that you again?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 18/07/2026 09:42

I’ve just been for a week at the beach (sandy) and can contest that yes it gets everywhere and I spent a lot of time showering it off.

Zippidydoodah · 18/07/2026 09:46

NeartoNewquay · 17/07/2026 12:56

Lol - our cars, bathrooms and laundry bins are always full of sand. In fact my 18 yr old DD is probably at least 20% sand herself because when she was a baby she used to eat big handfuls of the stuff and we went to the beach a lot 😂.

I love the feeling of walking on sand and find pebbly beaches very hard going so it's just as well we have so many lovely sandy beaches on our doorstep.

Aaah…sounds like heaven!

PaperFlyingFucks · 18/07/2026 09:52

Hate, hate, hate it!

AhDell · 18/07/2026 10:31

Not a fan then @PaperFlyingFucks ? 😆

Even worse is sand + suncream 😱

@ConstantlyFuriosa incredible, so beautiful!

MustBeThursday · 18/07/2026 10:40

I hate sand too. I’m not a fan of dry sand but wet/damp sand is significantly worse. The talc trick helps, and I wear those neoprene aqua shoes to minimise sand on feet
