Let’s face it, the world is a shambles and is getting worse!
Love is mostly (in young generations, BAR SOME) all about sex, status and drink and drugs. It’s shallow for most… I long for a love like what my parents and grandparents had.
I have faced facts that my “usual type” is what I explained above and have decided to change my appearance to suit what I’m looking for (felt important to me but it isn’t for everyone!) and no shame in people who want to do whatever for theirselves! Personally I have stripped the lashes, foundation and revealing clothes. I’m a single mum and I’m ready to find my husband when the time is right.
eventually I do want to settle and marry so I’m preparing myself now and I love living this way. It is peaceful and more fulfilling to me to be comfortable in my own skin.
i do hope there is love out there that’s the good old fashioned type romcom love! Am I kidding myself ha

The title doesn't make sense and I can't say love was about status and drugs when I was younger, but I'm glad you feel happy with who you are and have taken the pressure off yourself to find someone.

KnittyNell · 16/07/2026 18:49

I don’t understand your post.

plims · 16/07/2026 18:50

Make it make sense

What

I don’t understand your post.

She's saying she's grown out of a superficial 'party lifestyle' and is settling into single motherhood. She hopes to find a loving relationship based on deeper values than drug-fuelled sex. To this end, she's changed her look to something lower-octane. She feels this better reflects her real self.

The bonkers OP title is due to typos.

My parents’ “successful” 57 year marriage is miserable. They are still together because of some really warped sense of duty to vows they took when they were barely adults, having met as teenagers. They bitch about each other behind their backs, but if you see their Facebook posts they are the most loved up couple on earth.

My grandma stayed with my granda through some very difficult times, raising 4 kids they could barely afford after his business went up the spout due to his alcoholism, having to go out and work at a time when women didn’t. They were married 60 years before he died, but she should have left him decades before that.

Those great are not the norm. Get some realism. My husband and I were never loves young dream. It has never been hearts and flowers, but after 26 years together, having been through rough times, we actively choose to stay together when actually, walking away would be really easy. That’s the goal.

I think I speak for everyone when I say: EH?

Nopuedeser · 16/07/2026 19:00

Well I’ve never had drug fuelled sex (sadly?) or a party lifestyle, and don’t wear fake lashes etc, so I don’t think I can really relate to what you describe. But do what makes you happy 🤷🏻‍♀️. Be who you are.

Coralsunset · 16/07/2026 19:01

Is English your first language? I am not quite sure what you are saying.

However, you say you are happy with your life, so you are definitely winning! Just keep doing what makes you happy.

malloryknox123 · 16/07/2026 19:02

Love never had anything to do with drugs or status for me.

lashes are the least significant thing on my life, are you one of those women who judge others on the length of lashes alone?

Darragon · 16/07/2026 19:02

Love Island isn’t real OP. HTH

I think you're right.

SallyD00lally · 16/07/2026 19:29

Wait, wet?

Wet what wet?

Sorry I don’t think this made much sense

It's alright, it made sense to me

I hope you find what you're looking for, but to be honest I think there are a lot of relationships out there that are a bit crap

I hope you find a good one

Also, I think you'll probably get some relief from not maintaining the false appearances that you've been doing

I know a lot of young women who do this and I don't really understand it when they say social pressure - is it about attracting a certain type of person? They seem to be spending a lot of money maintaining an appearance that they don't actually like!

MyDailyCake · 16/07/2026 19:45

I met my civil partner on Tinder and he's never seen me wearing make-up. I don't think anyone's ever loved me as much as he does, and I know that's based on my true, natural self; no hair dye, no fillers, no fakeness.

RoseOliviaAu · 16/07/2026 20:00

I don’t know anyone who’s love in their 20s was based on status and drink and drugs. Sounds like you need entirely new circles around you.

What did you mean to say? That you're giving up the drugs? That's good.
