What does it matter, unless his new name was a secret it makes no difference. Prisoners aren't stupid.

Solitary confinement should be the option. The law should be changed so that a prisoner cannot change his or her name until no longer serving a sentence or out on licence.

Lots of Paedophiles change their names just before conviction to stop people finding out about their crimes. I don’t think it should just be Prisoners who are stopped, it should be anyone charged of a crime.

No he shouldn't be allowed to change his name. But realistically he could change it to Prince Harry and the other prisoners will still know exactly who he is.

How do prisoners know? Do they have access to the BBC news, or papers, or is it their visitors who tell them?

I don't think prisons should be so unsafe that violence is a real risk. Where does it end?

Most have a small TV and some have a radio as well. Lots do also have unofficial phones.

I agree, actually. He is the same person and he is a dangerous person. That’s his name and it is necessary to know where he is - he has no right to be forgotten or to have his
criminality disguised by adopting another persona or name.

I imagine he will be kept separately from the majority of prisoners for his own safety anyway.

Well they aren’t safe for prison officers, so we already know they aren’t reaching the standards we would like.

It’s appalling. Nowhere should be so unsafe that staff and inmates are at risk of harm or death. We are supposed to be a humane society, we should protect people from harm.

No he shouldn’t. There should be a traceable history of name changes so even if someone does it you can still find out their name history. Also the other prisoners have eyes - they’ll know by his ugly mug even if he does change his name. That won’t offer him protection. He’s scum, I wish we had the death penalty back.
