I feel like an old piece of furniture that he checks on as a chore

I’m dating to this guy that I previously knew before. We started talking again and went on a date. Since then he will message in the morning asking how I am then disappear for the day and initiate the how are you convo again in the morning and the convo basically doesn’t go past the how are you message everyday. I’m starting to feel bored no plan of another date, no plans to call. It’s starting to feel boring and not exciting like I’m placed on the shelf and he’s checking in as a chore.

I’ve already had the convo of I don’t need to hear from him all the time but if we can’t maintain a convo with flow just let me know your busy and then I know not to take it personal. I feel a bit left in the dark cause at this point I don’t know if it’s dating with intention or casual check ins. I’ve mentioned it and he brushed it off. Which has made me irritated but I wanted to write a post just incase im over reacting.

Do you think I should address the fact that I feel like there is no flow or effort to build on the connection? Because I stopped messaging him yesterday and he doubled texted and even though I’m letting the conversation die today he keeps trying to maintain it

Basically looking for advice 😌

Do you like him?

Is he fun to be with?

Does he make you feel cared for and desired?

Sidebeforeself · 15/07/2026 15:36

Why don’t you ring him and talk to him? You get a much better feel from someone through talking rather than texting. Also ( only if you like him) why don t you set up the next date? Suggest a date and time and what you fancy doing. Then take it from there.

TreeDudette · 15/07/2026 15:37

I think he sounds dull and if it's this bad right at the start it won't improve. Chuck him in the bin and find a better one... NEXT!

OriginalSkang · 15/07/2026 15:38

Look up the burnt haystack dating method

I would just stop replying and move on

1000StrawberryLolliesandPrincessofLichtenstein · 15/07/2026 15:39

Nah, the start of something is when people are on their best behaviour/putting extra effort in. If he’s not engaging now he never will.

EndlessWeeding · 15/07/2026 16:05

When was the date?

Doll500 · 15/07/2026 22:31

We went on a date on Sunday an it’s was a good date and a lovely time. But convo has felt dull, we’ve not even had a good conversation on the phone. I thought after the good time at the date it would of brought us closer or gave us a spark to talk about but literally nothing

Idontjetwashthefucker · 16/07/2026 09:02

So what does he say in his morning texts and what do you say back? It's a 2 way street, are you putting any effort in?

EndlessWeeding · 16/07/2026 10:05

Sunday wasn't that long ago. Has there been no talk of another date?

Fiendishandfiery · 16/07/2026 10:09

Ok. Surprised at the drip feed. If your last date was only Sunday, you wrote Like it has been weeks and weeks, how can you feel like it’s a chore and this is the 4th date, I can’t decide if you’re super needy or well super needy.

if you want a second date just message and say shall we go for a drink /dinner on sat?

midJulytarget · 16/07/2026 10:21

Sounds like you've known each other a while, as you "previously knew him before". So he will have formed an opinion of you. He will also know what he's looking for in general, and from you.

Let's be honest, he doen't seem that into it. Either due to his attitude to you, or that he's only looking for a distant, casual thing.

Certainly wouldn't bother asking him for more interaction, what's the point? If he was keen, you'd know it.

AllTheTreesOfTheField · 16/07/2026 10:47

Let's be honest, he doen't seem that into it

I'd go with this, OP.

mondaytosunday · 16/07/2026 11:58

Soooo….
I went on a date with my DH then didn’t hear from him for a week. He was busy. I was just losing hope when he called, second date and a year later we were married.
In these morning exchanges what do you say? I’d say something like ‘are you free Sunday? I’d like to check out this restaurant/exhibit/open garden…’. How he responds will tell you if he’s interested or not.

Backpain2026 · 16/07/2026 12:08

You saw him on Sunday. Its now been a working week.

Suggest another date to see him. Eg do you want to go out for dinner on Saturday night.

And then don't think about it until you see him again.

Then have another date etc.

Then if the dates stop being fun, stop them. But you don't need to do daily checks in to build up a relationship

TheClocksFast · 16/07/2026 12:10

You’ve seen him once and beyond that it’s just a series of inadequate texts and no suggestion of a second date?

I wouldn’t really call this ‘dating’ and he doesn’t seem to be making much effort.

Betadelta · 16/07/2026 12:11

Personally it would matter to me a lot more what he's like in person than in a message. If you had a date on Sunday and it went well, that's good. Can you suggest a plan for the next date?

Wishimaywishimight · 16/07/2026 12:13

Why drag this out? It all sounds painfully dull!

AImportantMermaid · 16/07/2026 12:17

How are you replying? If it’s a ‘Good thanks, you?’, then of course it’s going to be boring because you’re being boring too and you’re probably boring each other to death. If it’s, ‘Great thanks, just listening to the new Biffy Clyro album, thanks for the recommendation. Have you seen them live?’, or some sort of conversation opener, you might get more back. Or just dump if it’s not going anywhere.
