To ask how you would use 2.25 metres of fabric?

I have 2.25 meters of white and black polka dot polycotton arriving tomorrow.

My original plan was to make some shorts, but I have some very similar trousers so I’m unsure if it’s a bit of overkill? I’m a size 18, so it won’t really be enough to make a dress, so coming here for some advice/ideas!

I am just pondering the exact same question! I've got a week off work next week and was planning on making something but can't decide what.

With that amount of fabric, I'd probably go for a new top. My current go-to patterns are Cashmerette Cedar Dolman Top or a Tilly and the Buttons Stevie or Leah.

Stevie Tunic

With no darts, zips or set-in sleeves, Stevie is a satisfyingly quick and easy make. Perfect for beginners, it's no wonder Steve is one of our bestselling patterns. Throw it on with a statement necklace and you're good to go!

Oh I’m a Tilly and the buttons fan!

A 'shell' top. Not quite enough for a skater style skirt I think, unless you can make a waistband/panels with some other fabric?

DilemmaDelilah · 15/07/2026 11:52

Depending on the width, there may be enough for a full skirt. That is probably what I would aim for.

bridgetreilly · 15/07/2026 11:53

How wide is the fabric?

If you would prefer a dress, how about adding in some plain black panels? Anything with a princess seam would work.
