Does your hometown get insane and awful in summer?

Mine does and the horror is in full swing. Everyone out on the streets plus thousands of tourists and other visitors and for some reason everyone gets ruder and more stupid every year. You can't walk down the main street without being knocked about like a pinball. Step ASIDE OMG I am not capable of evaporating to let you walk directly through me.

I wish this had died for good with COVID times.

Unfortunately I tell my H this - if you live somewhere vibrant and fun ( and expensive) then it’s something you have to put up with

The local moan in this particular town is all the articles with pictures of Catherine Hill going "move to X" causing people to sell up in the SE and push up the house prices.

However I worked there 20 years ago and it was rough as, so it came with some benefits.

Yep, seaside resort. I avoid it as much as possible.

And the DRIVING! Dear god I swear the heat has addled the brains of a lot of drivers at the moment. I can kind of forgive a little bit the tourists who don’t know where they’re going but bloody locals too!

I’ll tell you how bad it is, there are signs all over the place on main roads saying ‘cars may pull out of turning ahead’ No shit Sherlock! Fancy cars coming out of side roads to join the main road!

I despair.

I live in Suffolk, and yes, it's mayhem during the summer months. All my usual haunts, Southwold, Aldeburgh, Woodbridge are inundated with tourists. I always take a week off in August myself, and so I join the throngs of people and just get stuck in.

Nope, all the undergrads go home. Far quieter.

The council really should push it as a tourist destination but don't bother.

Nope,...but not in a tourist place, either. It's quite quiet here all year round, and we live in a street with lots of elderly neighbours, right by the forest.
I'm avoiding the public outdoor pool, though, and we tend to stick to the one we've got in the garden.

We used to live by the sea, but a little further along the beach from the nearest town. It used to be quiet there as well.

Yes. Edinburgh and I stay as central as it comes. Honestly tempted to let out my flat in August and go away during the festival

I do get annoyed by incoming idiots who leave horrible messes behind on our gorgeous beaches. It’s surprising how many people do this.

but otherwise our seaside town really buzzes in the summer, but isn’t swamped. It’s a lively lovely vibe in general

Over tourism is becoming a problem the world over I think. I was on holiday in north Wales last summer (the irony!!) and it was full of literal coach loads of American tourists. Everywhere has just become so busy it makes visiting deeply unpleasant.
