To eat this ice cream

Got a tub of Ben and Jerry's from local discount freezer store
They have some unusual things sometimes like discontinued and short dated items.
Partner refusing to eat said pint of b&j as no safety seal.its probably a factory fluke. He wants me to return it. We dont drive and I can't be bothered after a 5am start, but im breast feeding and he says its been tempered with. It looks fine.
Its hot and im sleep deprived and ice cream has become my daily luxury/treat
AiBU to eat it?

Return some ice cream, what a ridiculous twat! 😂 Enjoy your ice cream!

faerylune · 14/07/2026 12:37

I would eat it unless I'm breastfeeding... eat something else

RoseOliviaAu · 14/07/2026 12:40

Well I doubt they’ll accept the return of ice cream without a seal. You can get listeria or salmonella from ice cream not stored correctly. So I wouldn’t eat it. I would, however, hope my husband would help me by getting different ice cream rather than moaning at me when I’m breastfeeding his child and started work at 5am.

SallyD00lally · 14/07/2026 12:41

I'd bin it as I couldn't be bothered to return it.

WeNeedaDiagram · 14/07/2026 12:43

Return it? What a tool he sounds. Just enjoy it.

Patrickpickthepepper · 14/07/2026 12:44

I bought a packet of feta cheese the other day that when I got home I noticed the edge of the packet where it’s sealed hadn’t joined properly, leaving a hole. The cheese looked and smelt ok, but there was no way I was going to eat it, as potentially any bacteria could have got in the packet.

NotAnotherScarf · 14/07/2026 12:44

Personally no I wouldn't not just because it doesn't have a seal. But the combination of the missing seal and its ice-cream which is potentially a bug farm if not stored correctly...

BeSunnyLemonSheep · 14/07/2026 12:46

YABU, particularly as you’re breastfeeding. That’s also no excuse to eat tubs of ice cream every day.

I would bin it.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 14/07/2026 12:47

I'd eat it.

Goodiebagh · 14/07/2026 12:52

BTW I dont eat a tub a day! Or multiple tubs.... I usually have a portion, in the evening. Its just become a ritual. BF burns a lot of calories you know! :)

I breastfed continuously for over five years. I understand how it works.

I never used it as an excuse to binge on food during it.

Christ aren't you a barrel of laughs!

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 14/07/2026 13:14

Yeah I would eat it tbh.

KazWasntEverCool · 14/07/2026 13:16

No I wouldn’t eat it. I wouldn't enjoy it, wondering if it going to be introducing crap into my body. I’d go to the shop and get some hygienicallysealed icecream.
