DM has shingles. Worried for my DF who hasn’t had chickenpox

My DM has been diagnosed with shingles on her face and are infected. So antibiotics and antivirals for her. Had the shingles vaccine around four years ago.

Now I’m concerned about my DF. He is receiving immunotherapy for cancer. Last date of his infusion was 28/5. He had the shingles vaccine the same time as DM. However he hasn’t had chickenpox. Has another course of immunotherapy of three sessions which is one infusion per week for three weeks.

They have different bathrooms. Though I suggested that need to keep the hand towels separate in the downstairs toilet and don’t share towels in the kitchen. Take turns to wash up etc.

What else do you think my DF needs to do? I first saw soreness on DM’s face on Thursday

He needs to speak to his doctor and oncologist

I thought so as be able find out the earliest he can receive the (currently) last course. Or perhaps ask him to take antivirals as a precaution

Yes, speak to oncologist. They might give him antivirals

Chances are he’s already taking anti virals as part of his cancer treatment.

He probably has a number to call to get directly to the cancer support team - I certainly did.

They would probably be able to get him seen faster, as I would think his GP would need guidance from his oncology team.

Do not feel that he would be wasting anyone’s time by calling without delay.

Hope your parents are both well soon .
