DD15.5 has been experiencing lots of ups and downs since last year: low moods, anxiety, insecurity, sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, irritability. She sees a Therapist.

I have been tracking her for the last few months and I realised they are linked to her period, and I am convinced she is suffering from PMS. Her period started at 12 but it took about 2 years to become more regular,

I took her to the Dr last week and all she said is to keep track of it; and analyse /think why she is having those feelings/feeling this way, reasons why she is feeling low, anxious and discuss with therapist. 😒 Maybe sleep better and eat better before her period. Coming from a female Dr, think her response is ridiculous. I asked her if she could take evening primrose or calcium and she said there is no evidence that It can help.

I shall see another dr.

Any advice from PMS sufferers out there. Any apps she can use to track period; Anything she can do/take to improve. We started well teen her and omega in the meantime and I am keeping an eye, also I lavender oil in her pulse to help with sleep.

Thank you. This dr used to be good but I felt like she is tired and ready to retire/couldnt be bothered.

I am going to ask for an appointment with a male dr who has given me better advice in the past, a bit more knowledge of vitamins, alternatives, etc.

I don’t want to automedícate her without enough information

Or…. She actually thinks vitamins and alternative measures don’t have a solid scientific evidence to indicate they’ll make a difference.

And actually believes that tracking across the month and good lifestyle choices are worth doing.

You won’t go and see the type of practitioner who is going to deliver what you want. An alternative and holistic one. I suspect because you’ll have to pay. So want the same advice from a medic.

It could be PMDD.

She stopped diary as it gave her breakouts. She started drinking kefir; but doesn’t eat much cheese so I wanted to know if we could supplement with calcium

Kefir is dairy.

I think that there are so many demands on GP's time its almost impossible to have any kind of discussion with them in their allotted time slot.
Better to do your own research ( online, AI, or pharmavist) and then just ask GP for the treatment you want.
Its not ideal but its just how it is now.

To be fair to your GP, I’m a medic and do not “recommend” or prescribe vitamins unless there is an actual deficiency. There is basically no evidence for most vitamins for any condition. If you want advice on vitamins, go ask one of the people in Boots/Holland and Barrett etc. Your GP is also entirely correct to suggest lifestyle measures as first line for PMS. I cannot fathom why you would go into the GP wondering about the possibility of the pill and not actually ask the question.

It could be PMDD.

I think more likely it is PMDD

I would also say as as someone who haa low dairy intoleracet and hates vegan alternative milks its really hard to get enough calcium. Calcium supplements tend fo be really poorly absorbed. It's a night mare.

I also find char gpt a useful aid in medical research if you treat it like a researc assistant who's work needs reviewing

. If you put in your daughter's symptoms and ask whay there is evidence for what works , how strong the evidence is and what are the sources and what would it prioritise doing, what would it ask gp to do and what tests should you have done , how should you phrase things to discuss with GPS. It has given me a really useful plan prioritised by evidence strength and impact on my life.

You wanted a consultation about vitamins and herbal remedies.

What you got was an appointment with a medic who gave her medical professional opinion

Youll have to pay to get what you want

Yasmin ( or equivalent) pill helped my DD. Takes it for 3 months back to back then has a week long break for a period. Also putting on some weight had helped as she was slightly under. She also had low iron ( really tired and fainted a few times) and then later the Dr at her university prescribed folate.
I’m not sure why you are getting such a rough time on here. Get bloods checked if you think she might be low in iron and read up on ideal levels. Check her weight- she will be doing lots of growing so make sure she is eating well ( you mentioned issues with appetite) Try the pill if you think it might help.
