I would like to ask if anyone would recommend Bournemouth or more specifically Westbourne as a place to live?
My husband has been offered a job opportunity in that area and we are tempted to make the move. The only issue is, we will have daughters coming up to senior school age and I am slightly concerned that the area isn't as safe as it once was. I remember it from twenty years ago and it was absolutely lovely, but heard that due to HMO situations it might not be the same now.
I would be very grateful if anyone could offer any insight into how the area is now.

Just 'bumping' this for a decent response from someone else!

Only been to Bournemouth once - last year. Not for me personally. Unlikely to return.

Westbourne is pretty different to central Bournemouth. A much higher end area of town with stunning beaches. I’d definitely consider it. There are excellent grammar schools if your daughters could apply? (Bournemouth school for girls and Parkstone grammar).

Westbourne is lovely, as is Southbourne and Hengistbury Head.

Tuckton is lovely.

Grew up in Westbourne (I'm late 50s) and have lived in Bournemouth most of my life. Out of all the areas I would say Westbourne is its own little niche and seems to have escaped the malaise infecting the rest or the town. If I could afford it I'd live there again in a heartbeat.I visit occasionally and recommend the Libertine for socialising, there's also a good range of eateries, and the Arcade is fab for indeoendent retail.

Getting to the beach is easy down Alum Chine, and as for schools, the grammars are good as a PP mentioned.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best for your future - I'm a bitter cynic about my hometown in general, but Westbourne and its environs still get a hearty thumbs up from me.
