AIBU for wanting to try Adderall for age-related fatigue?

I don't have caffeine all the time, only when I'm going out with my boyfriend or with friends, but even at 400 mg of caffeine I don't feel buzzed or hyper, I feel about 70% to what I felt like at 20. I'm 31, I've had every single blood test under the sun, and they are all normal.

I am slurring my words and messing up my grammar constantly, and feel so tired I don't want to do anything, even my oldest hobbies. I'm sleeping 10 hours a day and wake up feeling just how I did when I was going to bed. I feel the constant urge to nap and people think I'm getting annoyed with them talking to me when really I'm trying to save my energy. I find it very difficult to explain simple things.

I have not had kids, and my BMI is 21, so I'm not overweight.

The 400 mg of caffeine is good (I got pills) but I feel like I need something stronger. I've heard Adderall is much more effective than caffeine is, but my friend told me I should just take more than 400 mg of caffeine instead. AIBU?

Sidenote: Ageing is so normal, yet sucks so much, I miss the old me that had so much energy! And why is it that men seem to age differently to women and still have so much energy at my age? Bleh! My point is, even though it's normal given my age, why suffer when there are things you can take to alleviate it, even if it's temporary?

Blood tests can be wrong or maybe they are not checking for every possible factor. What does your doctor say? Have they tested for Lyme disease for example?

AI might be abyto help you navigate the health system. I have various health issues and AI has helped me communicate with my GP. It just helps me get my thoughts clear so when I speak to GP I don't miss anything.

31 isn't young. After 35, if a woman tries to get pregnant, it is known as a geriatric pregnancy

Thanks for letting us know 😆 you sound very young indeed or maybe you’re just trying to bait older women. Try better.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/07/2026 11:33

You don’t have ‘age related fatigue’ - you’re not old enough.

You're talking utter rubbish.

I could do with some adderall? Where does one find it!

So therefore you actually think 35 is geriatric?!! You sound a bit bizarre tbh.

Of course 31 is young. And no you shouldn't take speed for 'age related fatigue' because I don't believe such a thing exists at 31.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 11/07/2026 12:16

Being so fatigued you can't speak isn't even slightly normal for 31.

You're probably overdosing on caffeine and it's affecting your sleep quality.

Also you might well be sleeping too much which makes you more tired.

Stop taking so much caffeine and focus on sleep quality over quantity.

And no, I don't think it's a good idea to buy illegal drugs (which might actually contain anything since you'll be buying them off the black market) because you feel tired.

31yo isn’t old, and there is no such thing as age related fatigue at that age. You are making shit up.

Chronic Lyme Disease is not a thing.

Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome is a thing but requires that OP has been diagnosed with and treated or Lyme Disease.

Do not add more delusional pseudoscience to OP's already warped brain.

GentleSheep · 11/07/2026 12:27

If you have had thyroid tests (I presume you have) then do you have the results to hand (I don't mean 'normal' I mean the actual figures. Also, ferritin blood test, have you had that?

Slimtoddy · 11/07/2026 12:27

@ImImmortalNowBabyDoll do you not believe the OP is struggling with fatigue? I agree the suggested treatment is problematic but desperate people say desperate things.

The suggested treatment is problematic because it's a fake treatment sold by charlatans with no medical basis and the only possible impact of it would be to make OP even more unwell.

I believe OP is suffering with fatigue.

It could be ME/CFS. However, considering OP is sleeping 10 hours a day and taking extreme amounts of caffeine, and also showing evidence that her thinking is impaired (believing herself to be elderly at 31), the first things she should be considering are lifestyle, and mental health. If a depressed, psychotic drug addict is fatigued, that's not a big mystery- and that's closer to what OP is describing than a rare tick-borne bacterial infection.

Slimtoddy · 11/07/2026 12:50

I only mentioned Lyme disease because I had a friend who has it (took a while to diagnose) and op's description reminded me of his experience. I also mentioned it as a way to suggest that not everything is tested for so it's possible there is something wrong (yet to be identified) that needs treatment that isn't a dodgy treatment.

mamakoukla · 11/07/2026 12:59

Blood test results within the normal range - I would take that with a grain of salt. Some countries have low values at the bottom range of normal e.g. ferritin, vitamin B12, etc. You can feel wiped and still have a normal value. I might start by reviewing those. Your level of fatigue is not what one would expect.

StickyProblem · 11/07/2026 13:41

“Old to have your first baby” (medically not societally) is not the same as “old”.
Go back to the doctors and get diagnosed. You have strange symptoms, dont self-diagnose.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/07/2026 13:51

The bottom of the normal range for some blood tests in the U.K. is very low. I had ferritin in the 20s and felt awful although it was technically in range. Due to some related conditions they gave me an iron infusion and the difference in my energy levels was huge.

Look at your results and see if you are close to the bottom of the normal range.

Do you have any family history of autoimmune conditions?
