To wish this Fridays sports day would be cancelled

I mean I can’t think of anything worse its going to be boiling 🥵
They’ll be people moaning about booking time off etc but I just think it’s daft in this heat - it got cancelled the week before last because of the heat and it’ll be equally warm this week and no shade on the school field and loads of kids age 3-11 (nursery to year 6)
The kids will be all hot and bothered and feel awful 😢

Chances are they might cancel again. My youngest boy's school has cancelled it twice so far due to the weather

We have had several hot summers on the trot now. Why cant schools move sports day to April? What the fuck is the aversion in the UK to making adaptations to the heat like other countries do.

This would be a much better idea!! Moving forward with the weather - hopefully they will do that.

Ours was moved to 9.am Thursday so hopefully cooler!

It’s the teachers I pity. i am going to take a slightly wet towel in a bag so my sweaty ds can wipe down. I wouldnt want to be trapped in a classroom for rest of day with 32 sweaty kids!

RosalieRosa · 06/07/2026 17:44

Yanbu if it is anything like my dcs sports days which involve the whole school and parents standing in a field for hours with basically no shade while they shut down the whole school building so nobody is allowed indoors. So stupid. In secondary, the kids can at least go inside for water or the loo and they are a lot older and (theoretically) more able to cope

imeanffsreally · 06/07/2026 17:44

YANBU. I want everything bar sitting in a cold bath, to be cancelled.

RudolphTheReindeer · 06/07/2026 18:18

I imagine they'll wait until closer to the time to make a decision

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/07/2026 18:22

I’d let your children skive. I always used to keep DS off.

It’s too hot for this bullshit. Dangerously hot in some areas.

Crunchymum · 06/07/2026 18:24

Ours (mid week) is still going ahead. They are making concessions, one of which is a dedicated medical station!!

Think I'm going to pull both of mine out for the day.

Then there's the chance of heatwave, snow, thunderstorm, hail and hypothermia and the resultant complaints of being cold/wet/can't sit on the grass/getting muddy/too hot/etc.
