I’m out with friends tonight for dinner and then to watch football at a pub, so no chance of any sleep before. I know I’ll be tired by midnight - what tips can you suggest? Caffeine?!

Midnight is a perfectly normal time for an adult to still be awake… Yes, you may be tired if this is outside your routine but it hardly needs any special tips/tricks!

OP I sometimes have to work Nights.
Caffeine, conversation, eating sweets usually help me. There are no tricks. You will be tired.

If you havent got the courtesy to be decent and reply with something helpful, why bother?
