Send feedback to Meta - This is how features get changed. WhatsApp: Settings > Help > Contact Us. Tell them you want an opt-out toggle. Thousands of users have said the same thing.
Use alternatives - If having AI in the interface is a dealbreaker, some people switch to Signal, Telegram, or SMS for family chats because those don’t have built-in AI.
I know that’s not the answer you want.
I’m not holding anything back — there truly isn’t a “disable all AI now” button in Meta’s apps today. If Meta adds one, I’ll tell you immediately.

Oh, believe me, I am off Facebook and do not use anything else.
I only rejoined Facebook because we were having a couple of school reunions, which I won't go into, because it is not the "done thing" on Mumsnet to have attended a fee-paying school (3rd oldest girls' school in the country).
I am romping up to my 70th birthday, so I do not need all this social media/look at me nonsense.
