Would you call the picture aeroplane or plane in a quiz?

Light hearted!!

Just watching the 1% club.

One of the questions involved the first letter of each word and putting them in alphabetical order.

Bike.. car.. bus.. aeroplane

It was just pictures, no words.

I put aeroplane first as it begins with an A.

But I would have been wrong because they put it last as it was a ‘plane’.

I assumed in a quiz it would be the formal spelling of aeroplane or airplane, not plane.

Would you have spelt it the same as me?

Yes definetely A.

Aeroplane is correct.

Interesting.
Phone. Telephone or phone?
Bus. Bus or omnibus?
When does the contraction become the word?

Hmm, tricky. I think I would have thought the same as you, as it is a quiz they were going to go with the formal version. Although you went with the informal Bus, rather than Omnibus, sooooo... (just kidding).

What would you have chosen if it was Telephone/Phone (obviously with a different set of words, so it wouldn't have still been last), which is more comparable to the Aeroplane/Plane question.

Good point.

See phone I would have called it a telephone.

But bus I would just say bus.

Oh x posted.

I guess Omnibus isn't in common parlance, so that's easier. But telephone and aeroplane are still, aren't they?

Yes it’s a good point.

I guess I can’t moan that they used plane when I also used the word bus.

Are they though? Would anyone under thirty, say, use telephone? I actually doubt it! 😂

So wouldn’t car be automobile?

Yes I guess if you’re going to say aeroplane then you’d need to say automobile too.
