How much spending money for 9 days in the south of France and Italy?

I’m off to the south of France and Italy in the summer.

I’m away for nine days in total - but that’s including one travel day between France and Italy, and two days at the racing. So those are automatically cheaper days because I’ll take a picnic.

I’m staying in Airbnbs, and don’t plan on eating every meal out - I’ll try and do at least one a day at the apartment/packed to take with me. Whether that’s breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I think I’ll be taking about £1,000, plus £200 emergency spending money. Accommodation and all travel is paid for.

Is this enough?

YABU - you’ll need way more

YANBU - plenty

Food generally is cheaper than UK

If it's just you then £100 per day should be ample IMO.

It depends. Food in shops is more expensive than the UK. Eating out (including wine) is a little cheaper than the UK so it works out similar overall. And you don’t need to give big tips!

That seems a lot for one person! We did a week in Croatia for three of us, few meals out, days out to aquarium and Dino park and some sightseeing and went spent around £650 for 8 days.

I never understand these threads because there is no obvious answer. Some would spend more; some would spend less.
You don't really need to take "spending money" anyway - if you have credit and debit cards, they'll work fine in Europe - not like the olden days of taking travellers cheques 😂

I just know how fast money seems to evaporate when you’re on holiday

The south of France and Italy are generally very expensive, meals out especially. However as you're not planning to eat out all the time and you're on your own, I think that's plenty. As others have said, bring a credit card in case you have something unpredictable to pay for. Have a lovely time, it's a wonderful part of the world!

Whereabouts SoF though? You can easily spend that in some of the big towns down there - beach front is always expensive. Go for Brasseries rather than Restos.

Also, find your local market for fresh food here https://marketsinfrance.com/french-market-day listed by Departement. I'm assuming you'll be in 83 Var or 06 Alpes Maritimes, possibly 13 BdR depending on where you start.
