To change my child’s school

I’m changing my 6 year olds school (she’s just finishing year 1, going in to year 2). I’ve recently told her and she’s so upset, really worrying about missing her friends and not making new ones.
She has some lovely friendships but I’m really unhappy with the school and do feel it’s the right choice. I just feel so horrendously guilty, and worried that if she doesn’t make friends or doesn’t like the new school I’ll have made a terrible decision.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did your child do ok?

Depends entirely on what you’re not happy with at the current school?

Well if you have to move due to relocating or something then unfortunately she will have to make the change but surely she would have understood she would have to move if that was the case?

If it's just because you're unhappy then yes it's pretty unreasonable to just spring it on her with no discussion.

What’s so awful about the school?

It’s hard to comment not knowing why. My children moved schools as we moved house a few times.

Just don't turn this into a serial 'moving on as I've been upset'. It will damage your child. Once is fine but the reasons for leaving need to be really excellent, and you're 100% sure the new school won't have any issues either. Otherwise you're at risk of moving your kid at every whiff of something you 'don't agree with' or 'friendship. Issues' or 'not very nice teachers' , which would be dreadful for your DD.

I moved my kids in Y2 (we moved house) and they were OK but that was it, they changed schools and stayed put.

Are you sure what you don't like about the school won't happen at the new one too?
