I’ve just seen a message on my local FB page from a lady concerned about the amount of brazen thefts occurring at our local village shop.
In this instance the perpetrators were kids grabbing armfuls of stuff and walking out unchallenged.
I Know this is unfortunately becoming common place and have seen a few threads about it on here but what shocked me most was the attitude of the people commenting.

The majority seemed to actually be justifying and even defending the thrives calling the woman a Karen and commenting that shops such as the well know chain in our village won’t be affected by a few thefts as they can afford to take the loss.
But that’s not the point is it? When did society become ok with people outright stealing in their local community? Have people just given up? I’ve seen it before with commenters down playing other petty theft and antisocial behaviour in our village. God it’s do depressing.

It's awful. It really feels like anything goes in society these days. Except hurty words.

Yes, people have given up.

Also challenging this behaviour could put yourself in danger. So don’t do that.

Nothing to add, I agree completely.

As a shop owner, you would be amazed at the vitriol I've had over shoplifting. I've even had two occasions of 1 star Google reviews, one from a member of the public over me trying to identify a thief and sharing the police page on my social media, and one from an actual thief themselves. I had another thief sending me abuse on social media, she was very smart, because her messages led me straight to her, and the two other members of her family who also stole from me and they were all prosecuted and the stolen goods were recovered.

So many people defend shoplifting, worse still when it's from a small business like mine and the people caught stealing aren't your run of the mill thieves, they aren't stealing to feed their kids of even a drug habit, they are just people who don't want to pay for things.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry 😞

One of the FB comments on a thread about a local person challenging some anti social behaviour outside his house was basically if you interfere you should expect to get stabbed FFS!

The end result of this is the shop closing, because it cannot make a profit, and the community blaming the shop owner for taking away a ‘valuable community resource.’ 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just ask them how they'd think if they owned the shop . That should make them think. Some people are idiots .
