Who in their right mind decided that vacuum packing cooked beetroot was the way to go?

Who was it?

Own up

The murder?

Or beetroot for tea?

I heard that it lowers blood pressure.

Getting rid of your husband/eating beetroot.

Oh dear. This I why I slit the pack open in the sink and let the liquid drain out first.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 29/06/2026 20:45

PS Do. Not be alarmed when your pee turns pink Confused

chirrupybird · 29/06/2026 20:47

I did cherry pie once that looked like that halving and de-stoning a huge bowl of home grown cherries, looked like a massacre and cherry juice all up my arms.

Thats what I did!!

But I put them in the wrong pot (because you have to manage to store these bloody things) and couldnt find the lid, so then I had to transfer it to another pot and didnt realise there was still so much juice in there.

Then when transferring the empty pack from the sink to the bin, mayhem. Blood everywhere.

I cant find it in myself to chop it up on the chopping board either, the stains are out of this world

So I try to chop and slice it in the bowl Im serving it in and then its slip sliding all round the bowl

I need better beetroot management skills.

The first time my husband did a marathon he decided to drink absolutely loads of beetroot juice in the run up.

He was staying in a hotel that night and called me very early in the morning the next day in a panic because he thought he was pissing blood from the running and had mere minutes to live.

Thank god I remembered the beetroot juice, and managed to calm him down enough to remind him that a gallon of beetroot is probably going to have an effect on your piss.

vipersnest1 · 29/06/2026 21:58

Prepare by putting a bowl, a fork and a pair of scissors by the sink.
Put the beetroot pack in the sink. Cut the pack all the way across with the scissors (stand the pack on end and cut across the top edge IYSWIM).
Use the fork to move the beetroot into the bowl.
Rinse the pack out before transferring it to the bin.
Use a knife and the fork to cut the beetroot as desired.
(Can you tell I’ve had this problem in the past?) 😁

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 30/06/2026 15:42

Ahaha, rinsing the wrapper is the missing step. Flowers

Vacuum packed beetroot is one of the most delicious foods in the world.

FFSItsTooHot · 30/06/2026 16:58

I've often wondered why the manufacturers put the messiest foods in the most awkward to open packaging/containers. Prior to tuna being available in ring-pull cans,I often ended up with sunflower oil all over the place.

VikingLady · 30/06/2026 17:42

I once had a sneezing fit whilst bottling a full demijohn of red wine. we have cream cabinets. i feel your pain.

Exactly. Put the beetroot in a plastic container with space around the beets, not tight to the shape of them which means even though I do try to do it in the sink, they wont budge out of it and Im tussling with a packet of beetroot

It doesnt seem worth it.

The time I decided to have a deliciously ripe fresh pomegranate...

I've had other fresh pomegranates that did not create a murder scene. But this time.

My mum always used to pickle home grown beetroot. I could eat it by the jar...

Blueberries0761 · 01/07/2026 21:57

I sympathise OP. I recently bought that vacuum packed beetroot for the same reason - I heard it's supposed to reduce blood pressure.

Opening it and dealing with the subsequent disaster in my kitchen had the opposite effect I'm sure and raised my blood pressure.

Even my top ended up with a few red splashes, I wasn't happy.
