AIBU to wonder how a government can be based in Manchester?

Andy Burnham is proposing to govern from Manchester when he starts on July 20th.How can this be so ? Surely all previous governments have been based in London?

WTF has the Kings location got to do with it. You don’t need several airports. Manchester airport is very large and efficient. There are excellent transport routes to Manchester. It’s irrelevant how much money is generated in London. It sounds like you need to ‘get out more’ in Britain.

Security? Relocation of staff?
First class travel/ helicopters/ chauffeurs every other day. Not just for him, but his advisors.
Hotel costs for staff who go back and to with him.
Maintaining No 10 as a second home, with full staff/ security etc. Will council tax payers in Manchester fund that, or will London tax payers fund that?

Manchester isn't in the Midlands, it's in the north west. Cheshire is also between the the midlands and Manchester.

The government is a huge staff of people across many different departments. Burnham is planning to base some of these departments in Manchester. He will have work space for himself in 'the Manchester office' and will sometimes work from there. Possibly even mostly work from there.
I have no doubt he will go to London to see dignitaries, the King and to attend Parliament, and the rest of the time, it doesn't really matter where he is, does it?

Manchester is the centre of the whole universe.

Is he going to have two sets of admin staff to service two locations, or is he expecting the civil service staff who live in the London area to start working part-time from Manchester to support him? Sounds like more cost and more hassle for everyone.

I love Manchester, lived there for a few years, went to uni in Sheffield, have spent a decent amount of time up north and my husbands family are all from Derbyshire. But my god you guys are so petty and chippy, it gets me every time. Once a week, the prime minister has an audience with the monarch, which happens to be the King.
The prime minister always goes to the Monarch.

Burnham isn’t relocating the PM’s office to Manchester. It’s a specific area of work that’s moving up there.

But how is that relevant? The King doesn’t live at Buckingham Palace. He moves between Clarence House, Sandringham, Highgrove and Balmoral. The word on the street is that he’s not a big fan of London.

And? Burnham will be in Downing Street, just like every other Prime Minister. You are aware its just one new department that will be located in Manchester, not the whole government? If not, try facts. They are your friend.
